Hey Hubbers,
Shadesbreath and I would like to give you an experience that you might not have received yet during your time on Hubpages.
So, with that said- How about trying an INSTANT Hub Challenge. What is a "Instant" Hub Challenge?
Well, I'm glad you asked- It's about consciously writing one hub in 30 minutes, beginning at a time designated by either Shadesbreath or myself and when time is done, hit publish.
Shadesbreath and I will both read and comment on the hub you produce. However, this might be your only chance to do one, because I haven't been doing them, due to other duties elsewhere and Shadesbreath has been shamelessly self promoting his book.
So, there is a good chance another opportunity like this might not come along? One can never tell.
Rules- (a)Hub must be 400 words in length and (b) The hub cannot be anything that you were working on or have unpublished already, and (c) You cannot start until it is posted in the forum- GOOOOOOOOOOO!
*you can setup your URL, title, category and get ready to click create hub, but you must not start the process until told to start.
Come join Shadesbreath and Me.
Not even willing to try. My fastest hub published took three hours and still had to be gone through after it was published. Looking for a picture for my earliest hubs took another 3 to 4 hours.
Some of my forum replies might make it, though I am not sure about making the 400 words. My guess is some of them are pretty close.
Good luck in whatever you do Cagsil.
1. The point is not to make a perfect hub.
2. The point is to have fun.
3. The point is to get the seedling of something written, which you can then feel compelled to go back and clean up since you already hit publish (hence the beauty of doing these late at night, nobody really sees them except us, and we're on your side).
Take off your tie, take off your shoes, run and take two to eleven shots of the best booze in your house, and come back and have some fun with it.
You can always unpublish it tomorrow if it truly sucks.
Hey Shadesbreath, do try to keep up? Did you see my last post to you directly?
A little slow this evening. Okay.
Are you going to set a start time?
You're the one with the timer? So, we might as well have you start things.
Let me make a thread that has a more marketing our idea title. One sec.
I don't wear ties, I'm already barefoot, and the best booze in my house is Crystal Lite Peach Tea, but I'm on it...just say when, big guy!
Thank you. It's open to anyone who would like to try it.
Oh, come on, Cags and Shades, you've required consciousness? I don't think so...
Hell, I'll give it a shot. I make no promises, but I can crank something out in 30 minutes.
Nice to see you Motown and glad to see you're going to give it a try. I have faith in you, believe it or not.
Thanks, Cags. That means a lot, actually.
You're welcome. I'm just not sure if Shadesbreath is going to make it. I have faith in him too, but it could seriously depend on how much he has had to drink.
Shadebreath is all that his avatar is.....
I think we're somewhere near 11 beers and two shots of Herradura tequila. lol. (This is what happens when my wife leaves town... I have to substitute booze for food because there is no one to cook and I am famously unmotivated when it comes to such enterprises). I can't be held responsible for whatever comes out lol.
Unmotivated to feed yourself? Sounds like an alcoholic to me.
I have already done mine, couldn't wait for the starting gun. Didn't know there was a gun because I did it on the other thread. Am I disqualified?
Here it is anyway...
http://hubpages.com/hub/Clueless-In-Sea … um-Madness
Probably get snipped.
No, you just get to write another one.
This time, wait till we say "GOOOOOOOOOO"
Did you stay up all night, just in case an Internet stranger put out a bizarre "do this now" request?
Oh how I laughed when I read the next comment... "No, you just get to write another one".
Hi earner. Yes, I laughed as well. Inwardly.
so I'm confused. How does this work? How will I know when to start?
We will announce a start time once we get people committed. If you are into it, we have four, and that's enough to make it fun.
I will put down a time in here.
We will count down to it.
I will actually type: GOOOOOOOOOOO in here.
You see it, you click over and start.
BEFORE 30 minutes is up, you HAVE to hit publish.
The only other thing you have to do, is you have to read the hubs that the rest of us write and leave a comment. Even if they suck, you have to say, "Nice hub." LOL.
That's it.
Everyone post their links to their hubs in this thread, so other people can read them, when finished.
The start time will be 2:30am(EST). Shadesbreath has a timer and will post GOOOOOOO! when it is time.
2:45 eastern.... give people time to catch up. We have a lot of forum hopping going on still.
Okay, I think we have like almost five, ... four? Six?
So, lets start soon.
On my clock, it's 11:27.
So, lets say that at 11:45 we'll start.
GIves everyone time to think of something. Open up a hub and get the title typed.
I'm really sorry but I can't do another one.
As previously mentioned I stagger downstairs, nearly treading in dog poo, which is still all over the kitchen forming a minefield to get between the kettle and the fridge.
I blearily focus on a thread which implies a challenge, to my mind has just started, and I do my best to join in.
Having created something I proudly return to find out we haven't yet started. 2 in 60 minutes? At this time of the day?
I'm out. I'll clear up the poo and check your hubs when done. Good luck everybody.
LOL, so what you are saying is you can't write for an hour in an hour and a half's worth of time? LOL
I think I'd be challenged with the aroma of doggy poop wafting in the kitchen.
Jewels, you know you want to write something. Commit to run with the dogs of 30 minute hub challenge. Lay some hub poop and clean it up tomorrow.
15 minutes to start. Check in if you're still watching. LOL (I think we might be down to the same three that started 40 minutes ago LOL).
14 minutes to start.
You still have 12 minutes. Go start one... think of some rant you can riff on without notes.Just the title and some text boxes though.
Somthing you can go off on in the shower or driving.
12 Minutes to start
Yay! I believe in you, Mark Ewbie, don't give up!
8 minutes to start.
Get your topic. Set up your hub. Just don't WRITE it. You can add pictures later.
You MUST hit publish before 30 minutes is past.
POST the link to your hub in THIS thread.
You MUST read EVERYONE else's hub and leave a comment (be nice).
I will say "Gooo" here to start.
Jewels needs to not be a candyass and kick down with us.
Are we ready?
Do you have your topic?
Do you have your thoughts in order?
Do you feel the adrenaline? Anxious to begin?
ONE MINUTE... I WILL TYPE GOOOOOOOOOO IN ONE MINUTE.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
post the link here when u are done. read the other ones.
Is this the right place?
I did try it, was three minutes over.
This is my try
http://hubpages.com/hub/A-hub-about-nothing
Woot. now tidy them up if you must and then read everyones.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the pressure. But I did it. tick tick tick, did I make it? http://hubpages.com/hub/Forgive-and-Forget-No-Way
Wow. Those were all pretty bad. I mean I love you all and everything but wow. Shadesbreath's is the only one with any hope of bringing anyone in... and that's only if they are looking for a recipe for Vegemite and spell it wrong.
*Not judging Jewels in here. I hadn't read it when I posted and wouldn't be such a b***h on such a personal topic as to judge it.
LMAO, I know. If I wouldn't have been too busy creating a math formula for piss and giggles to see the thread, I would have done much worse.
BUT...Since I didn't I can poke from outside and feel all superior and stuff
I actually thought they were all pretty good. If someone stumbles on that lot while Hub Hopping they will think HP have finally got rid of the crap and got some real writers on board.
I'll notify Google. This could be the answer to all our problems.
I just finished them all.
Wow. What a great group of deep thinkers.
This is why I like the 30 minute hub challenge. Yes, the hubs aren't super video'ed up. There's grammar issues...
But you have to commit. You can't write some commercial blah blah who-fing-cares-blah-blah. Real writing comes out, souls and minds expose. Personalities emerge.
How fun for us all!
I am soooooooo glad I did this. Am reading thru everyone's work and soooooooo appreciate the feedback from mine. Befriended some new people too.
Shades, this reminds me of the old days. Here's a big hug for you and Cags. OOXX mwah!
We can make new "old days" if we make it fun.
Community is about the people in it. It's true that HP might be too far gone and hoping that they can make enough rules and regulations to save it, but I expect the company is still small enough to see how that won't work
We can only try, and hope they go back to empowering US, the people who ARE them.
I'm glad you enjoyed it Jewels. Thank you for the hug and hub.
This was a great deal of fun - thanks for jumping on board as a follower, Jewels. I hope you like what you see!
Shades and Cags, kudos to you both. This was really a blast!
Yeah, thanks - it turned out well. I will wait for the GOOOOOO next time, if there is a next time.
Shades you mentioned Old days. All forums have Old days, it's not so good now and so on. They operate in a constant shifting state, people leave (sad), people join (who the hell are they) and sometimes people get lifetime bans (respect).
Little microcosm of life, the new neighbours take a while to settle in.
Crikey Mark, you're like part of the furniture.
Thanks Jewel, it's all part of my endless self publicising. Hard work, and I don't get enough respect for it.
You are really right.
I've been around for three years now. Truth be told, I've seen it happen three times now. It's actually sort of a summer thing.
Little summer camps of free people find each other, engage, actually connect, and then really end up reading each others stuff, even make real friendships.
Then the dream ends... and, well, "I'll write you every day."
Etc.
But some of it remains. Old people meet new, etc. You get it.
But, the honeymoon feeling never comes back, so, we all have our "sweet memories" part. You can build new ones once you stop trying to remake the thing that's gone.
Or something. lol.
I probably need to stop drinking and go to bed.
My previous favourite forum was never the same after some posters, including me, got banned. Sure you can log in with a proxy server and a new identity - but it's not quite the same 50,000 post respect as you once got.
It's a funny thing, forums. You can make real friendships - just a shared thought or expression - even thought it's 'only' the internet.
Anyway, you go to bed, I need to go shopping. This time thing is all messed up. Put your clocks back several hours and submit to GMT.
Yeah, bed sounds good too. It's 4:35am here now. I guess I can blame the lateness on Shadesbreath, who likes to procrastinate. The mister unmotivated to feed himself, that he needs to substitute it for alcohol.
Great job everyone. It was fun. Good night!
I'm sure if you held another one at a better time and with more warning, more people'd come. There's no reason to stop having them.
I used to love these challenges back on my old,old account. I wish I could have participated in this one
Caren, usually there isn't any warning, when these types of challenge arise. The most advance warning you will have, will be about 1 hour at the most.
The challenge is about consciously writing one hub in 30 minutes, without any preparation whatsoever, except for getting the minor stuff out of the way, at the beginning of creating a hub.
I am not familiar with you enough to know what your old account was? Please clarify?
I have run a number of these challenges and I am not sure if I remember WHO you are with regards to them?
Actually, Shadesbreath is the one who originally started these challenges and I continued to do them on occasion.
I'm sorry you missed the challenge and like the OP says, I am not sure another will happen, but it is possible.
No point in telling you my old account. I only ended up participating in a couple of them because I missed most of them (so you wouldn't be able to remember me even if I did say), but I always enjoyed reading the hubs afterwards.
I will say though that I liked them so much, I once ran one on squidoo - though I gave people like 6 hours notice about when it'd start because their forums weren't all that active; I just trusted people not to go against the rules.
My memory isn't that bad. I have only done about a dozen of these challenges without Shadesbreath and have only done 5 with him. But, if you don't want to tell me then that is your choice. I guess it really doesn't make a difference.
I understand what you're saying.
Missed this one because a lightening bolt took out two trees in my front yard and then ran inside on my ground wire knocking out my modem, my Netflix and other streaming device, plus my wireless router.
Welcome back, Ray! I hope you learned your lesson since you got your legs switched by the mods!
Thank you Randy. Sorry to hear about what happened. I hope it didn't cost you too much to fix.
Gotta buy a new router and the Wi is fried. I live atop a ridge with tall pines growing all around me so I usually unplug everything when a storm gets near.
This one snuck up on me as the first lightning bolt heard was the destructive one. So far, about a dozen trees near my home have been struck by lightening. Never a dull moment here!
Thanks to Cagsil and Shadesbreath for doing this. I enjoyed it a lot. It seems I'm normally not on HP the same time as them but it was fun and a good little challenge for myself without doing a 30 day challenge.
Haven't had a chance to respond to the comments left on my hub but I'll try to get to you all later today.
I am sorry I missed this one. I loved doing these. I have been absent this week due to some crappy weather here. I need to get up to par and get back into the swing of things. I am hoping that you guys can find time to do another one...I would be looking forward to it.

It's hard to generate content. We all know it.Sometimes, a little gimmick goes a long way. Join a few of us RIGHT NOW, like, as in, RIGHT NOW, going to write a hub in 30 minutes.A 30 MINUTE HUB CHALLENGE.Yes, your hub will suck. No, it won't have images. But you can clean it up tomorrow. Have...

I hope this is in the right forum. I am trying to figure out what went wrong with my hub. The second day I was on the first page of google. I realized that I hadn't put the right title, I meant to change it before I published it and had forgot. so I went back and change the title....
by Shadesbreath 13 years ago
Simple rules:1. Do NOT start writing hub until I (as in ME only) says, IN this thread, "GO"2. One Hub. You have 30 minutes to write it, from scratch. (you can have your word doc open in advance etc., obviously, just no writing). No cheating and using something you started before.3....
by Brian 11 years ago
Just a question. Why is that when I try to search for my hubs using words in the title, that they do not come up when I search hub pages? I tried "Queer." and "Camping" and the ones I was looking for never showed up. I also tried doing a search by date, and nothing.I hope...

Take one of your old hubs, update it with new content, better photos, improved titles and add some additional modules (make it a stellar hub effectively) and then post it here for critique!

Hey Hub Writers,Are you up for an INSTANT Hub Challenge?Think you can write one hub inside 30 minutes.Give it a shot?Qualify-(a) hub must be quality - 600+ words or more(b) can be on any topic you choose(c) post when doneAfter the Challenge is over and hubs are written, I'll be glad to read each...
