Chinese Cannibal Zhang Yongming Is One Of Many Cannibalism Cases Reported Recently

Updated on October 23, 2012

By now you have more than likely heard about the homeless man in Miami having his face eaten off by a man named Rudy Eugene. Well apparently, Miami isn't the only place dealing with these bizarre acts of violence, several similar cases have been reported all over the world, with the majority of them being right here in the United States.

The fact that the police want to blame bath salts, without any actual proof, only shows me that they have no idea what they're dealing with. Regardless of whether or not Eugene was on heavy narcotics or not, it surely doesn't explain all of these acts of cannibalism. They may not be zombies per say, but the heinous acts they're committing certainly fit the bill.

Alex Kinyua - Baltimore, Maryland

Another big cannibalism case you may have heard of is Alex Kinyua (21) from Maryland. Kinyua has recently been caught, and confessed to the murder of fellow college student and roommate, Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie (37). After Kinyue's brother found the decapitated head and hands of the victim in the basement of their home, he first confronted Alex and then called the police, after his brother tried to claim the remains were of a stray dog.

The police found the body parts on the first floor of the home and the rest of the remains were found in a church dumpster about a mile away. After being arrested Kinyua quickly admitted to the murder, and to eating the victims heart and parts of his brain. This case occurred only days after the Miami incident.

No drugs are thought to be involved in this case. Kinyua came from a respectable family, even belonging to the ROTC military honor society, and his father was a physics lecturer at Morgan State University, the same college the two men attended. In an unrelated case, Kinyua had recently been expelled from school for violently attacking another student with a baseball bat, without cause.

Luca Rocco Magnotta - Montreal, Canada

Magnotta, born Eric Newman, is currently being sought after for torturing, killing, sexually abusing and eating his lover, while filming the entire incident. Magnotta's entire life is based on lies and fairy tales, he often likes to tell stories of his career in gay porn and his appearance on a Canadian reality show.

Magnotta's real life on the other hand, has been a long string of petty crimes, gradually building up to the vicious acts he is now wanted for. His crimes include theft, burglary, sexual assault, suspected arson and animal cruelty to name a few. The accused has been sending letters/Emails to "The Sun", informing them that it is not over, and he will be back.

Magnottae has also made the comment that "killing is so much worse than smoking, because you can actually quit smoking". Magnotta is thought to be hiding somewhere in Europe, possibly England. Scotland Yard and France are both heavily searching for the psychopath, but as of yet his location is still unknown. Police say he may be dressed as a woman, as he has a feminine appearance and a fascination with cross-dressing.

(Magnotta was captured on June 4 in Paris a few days after this article was originally written)

Zhang Yongming - Yunnan, China

Yongming, a 56 year old man from Yunnan,China is accused of killing anywhere from 15 - 20 young boys and eating their flesh. It is thought that he may also have been selling the meat to unsuspecting consumers as ostrich meat, and feeding it to his dog. In his home were wine bottles with the victims eyeballs stuffed inside.

Apparently this wasn't a first for Yongming, as he had previously served a 20 year sentence for murder, and was known in the neighborhood as the cannibal monster. Upon searching the accused mans home police found one of the victims cellphone and other personal items, along with the previously mentioned wine bottles.

China has recently blocked or removed almost all reports of the crime from Chinese websites, and online searches for the words "missing in Yunnan" have also been blocked. Cannibalism is a very sensitive subject in China where it has been practiced in past history during instances of mass starvation, like their failed industrialization drive in the 1950's.

Otty Sanchez - San Antonio, Texas

Sanchez (33) is being accused by the San Antonio Police Department of beheading her child using 2 swords and a knife. After murdering the 3 week old child, police say Sanchez ate part of the infants brain and chewed off three of his toes. Police Chief William McManus has made it very clear to the press that the details of the murder were far to heinous to fully discuss at this time.

Setting herself apart from most of the cases discussed here, Sanchez's case takes a far more gruesome turn considering the victim was her own infant son, but to make matters even creepier she told the police that she killed her son by request of the devil. Sanchez has been charged with capital murder for this horrible crime.

Thomas Tomasello - Staten Island, New York

Tomasello would certainly be the mildest of the accused in this article as he didn't kill or eat anyone. Thomas Tomasello is a Staten Island Pizza Shop owner, who just happened to try to bite the ear off of one of his customers. It all started when the customer changed the channel on the TV hanging on the wall of Tomasello's local restaurant. The waitress had gotten mad over the channel being switched and started arguing with the customer.

Hearing the debate the owner angrily stepped in and continued the argument with the customer for several more minutes. After things cooled down the customer went outside to smoke a cigarette and the owner followed him out the door, almost immediately after walking out of the restaurant the owner grabbed the victim and savagely bit his ear.

Tomasello's uncalled for act of violence left him charged with second- and third-degree assault charges.Though this wasn't exactly an act of cannibalism, using your mouth as a weapon is a behavior normally associated with wild animals and monsters, not intelligent human beings.

Jieming Liu - Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

Jieming Liu is a 79 year old Chinese immigrant. Jieming and his wife (73 year old Yuee Zhou) had moved to Shrewsbury from China to be closer to their children just last fall. Police say the couples son, while visiting his parents condo, had discovered his mother's body lying on the bedroom floor covered in blood.

The victims left arm had been severed and found with several bites taken out of it and the fingers missing. When the man found his father, his hands and face were covered in his wife's blood. He informed police that his father had seemed very confused, and had told him that this was not his mother that he had found.

Upon questioning, Liu told police that it was self defense not murder, though he didn't offer up any other details in his defense. Liu has been charged with murder although the exact cause of Yuee Zhou's death is still unclear.

As you can certainly see, there is no way that all of these people were getting high on bath salts, PCP, LSD or any other self prescribed narcotic. A few of them may have been drug related, it's definitely possible, but not all of them.

According to the CDC the cases I have mentioned here are only a handful of the articles swarming the Internet right now about recent cannibalism, and it's not showing any signs of lightening up. They may not be the zombies you have seen in horror movies, I don't actually remember movies ever being very true to fact, but it's certainly not a designer drug epidemic as the police would have you believe.

Whatever the cause may be, it seems there is a different kind of craziness coming over society lately and it doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon.
