Review of the Ambient Weather WS-2080 Wireless Weather Station

Updated on February 21, 2013

One of the Best Wireless Weather Stations

I chose to go with the Ambient WS-2080 because I needed a good wireless weather station that allowed me to download the information that I collected to my computer. There are lots of options available that allow you to do this but most of them are professional quality stations that cost hundreds of dollars. Because I didn’t want to spend that much and because of the positive reviews that I read of the Ambient Weather station I picked that one, this is my review.

I got my WS-2080 from Amazon largely for price reasons but also because the only places I could find to buy one was online. Once I got my station the first thing that I had to do was to get it set up. Fortunately this proved to be fairly straightforward and intuitive because if I had to rely on the instructions that came with it I never would have figured it out, they are not at all well written. The station was up and running in a matter of minutes although this proved to be misleading so I had to spend quite a bit of time adjusting the way it was set up.

The reason that I had to invest time in adjusting the set up of my Ambient WS-2080 is that when I first tried it the results were not at all good, they were very inaccurate. After doing some research online I learned that the most likely reason that the rain and wind gauges were giving me inaccurate results is that they were not perfectly level, if they are off even slightly the results will be way off.

The temperature also proved to be inaccurate, this turned out to be because of the sun, the solar radiation shield that comes with the station is nowhere near being up to the job so I had to invest in a better one. I would therefore advise anybody considering the Ambient Weather WS-2080 that they order a good quality radiation shield when they buy their station and that they take the time to make sure that they set things up properly when they first install it. Once I got everything working properly the readings proved to be very accurate so I am quite happy with the results that I am getting.

I would recommend the Ambient Weather WS-2080 to people who are looking for a home weather station that will allow them to download the data that they collect to their computers. Other than my initial setup issues I have no problems with mine I find that it works very well. I particularly like the way that the display screen is organized, compared to some other stations I have looked at it is well laid out with everything displayed on one screen. I also found that downloading the data to my computer was very straightforward. All and all it is a very good weather station for the home.
