The Battle of Maidstone
The Battle of Maidstone
The Battle of Maidstone was one of the fiercest battles of the Second English Civil War. After speaking to various people on several sites and forums local to the Maidstone area I found that I'm not the only one who is surprised that more wasn't made of this in history lessons at school. I was at school in Maidstone....and surrounding towns in the county ...but I don't remember ever learning about The Battle of Maidstone.
I decided to make this little song about The Battle of Maidstone. I also decided to avoid making it a circumstantial account of the event. I am putting links below so that you can read about the actual reasons why the battle took place. Instead...I have looked at it from the personal theatrics of the situation...and I've tried to imagine some of the hypothetical happenings.
Have a look at the links at the bottom of the page. They explain in great detail. As for myself...i just go for the imagery.

I'll just point out...that the bloodiest fighting took place on Gabriel's Hill...in a heavy storm...with the Parliamentarians led by Fairfax fighting hand to hand battle with the Royalists led by The Earl of Norwich. It is mainly on Gabriel's Hill that I place my story in the song
