The HIT field: What to Expect
HIT
A health information technician is someone who knows all about the laws and rules of the medical record. What they did not tell me was it was coding mostly of all kinds. Medical coding is a very challenging way for reimbursement, etc. Not something I originally wanted to do, but I discovered you sure learn a lot. Going into ICD-10 will be something very useful to know. There are jobs in all fields for coding. You can do it at home, such as medical transcription, which I do sometimes. I did this for 13 years. It is a good field to go into also. The one thing I find challenging is all the things you need to know. All the rules are exhausting at times, but it is a fun thing to get into. Next year, IC-D10 will be starting so it is good that we know this for graduation. I will be getting into this field as it is the way of the future. It is not all that difficult, but it is still a challenge to do. You need to really study hard and practice hard at these coding exercises to really get it.
