When Abandonment Takes Place

Updated on April 19, 2014

"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." 2 Corinthians 4

Abandonment takes place in many contexts, be it, physically, spiritually, or emotionally. A person, an animal, a relation, a task, a job, a debt, an architecture, etc. that is abandoned has been left completely and finally, it has been given up, it has been discontinued, withdrawn, it has been yielded, cast away, or deserted.

The experience of abandonment leaves scars. It has consequences. It will haunt us if the act was an irresponsible decision of abandoning "whatever". I have seen that when abandonment is at the scene, someone else will carry one way or the other with the abandonment. Some may overcome and will be able to quote words like Tatum O'Neal:

"I've overcome neglect and deprivation, abandonment and abuse."

Nobody is exempt to experiencing at least the sensation of abandonment. We have to be prepared with strength if abandonment visits us. Usually the abandonment will receive substitution for the emptiness it leaves. Some of the substitutes are good and others are bad.

Keep reading the following examples and let me know what is your opinion, or think about them. Sometimes we have solutions that may enlighten others.

If it is a home, undesirable insects will make it their home. Nature will discover its way to crawl in. Unlawful people will make it their trash place, or their little hospitals to cure their addictions.

If you cannot keep a may rent it, sale it or pay somebody to keep it clean.

If it is a child, that you cannot have, or want.someone will enjoy the benefit of raising this tender heart left alone. In some cases the abandoned child may be mistreated. They may become homeless, wandering around the streets, living lives that any will provide.

If it is a relation of any kind, a heart will be broken. Depression may attack with a severity that only the person will confront with values. In many cases again someone or something will replace the emptiness.

There are many helps for elders, for children and animals. Search before abandonment takes place.

If the case is a property, all effort will have become in vain. Loss of money, of pertinence and perhaps the availability to start again will seem unreachable.

Have you overcome the effects of abandonment?

Be prepared

Be prepared if abandonment touches the door of your existence. It strikes hearts, health, mind and enables sadness that may become destructible. I am not writing to make anyone feel worse. My intentions is to give hope, because there is hope.

Victory comes to those who are prepared for battle. Ephesians 6:10-11 says: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

  1. Belt of Truth
  2. Breastplate of Righteousness
  3. Sandals of Peace
  4. Shield of Faith
  5. Helmet of Salvation
  6. The Victorious Sword of the Spirit, God's Word

The abandon will not stay alone

Never lose hope

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31: 6).

We are living very hard times, but we need to stay up. Life is wonderful even when such bad, sad and negative experiences are covering our lives. Abandonment will have substitution, I encourage you to stay firm in the Lord.

Blessings to all!

Angela Blair, wow, thanks your testimony hit my heart. It is incredible the power of words, when shared from gratefulness like yours.

Abandonment -- and so many have suffered that instance in so very many different ways -- myself among them. I rarely go back to those times these days but instead feel like the grown woman at her high school reunion. She was eternally grateful that the football hero she was in love with abandoned her and she had married a wonderful man. I think the words are "thank you, God, for unanswered prayers!" Froggy213 thanks my dear husband for your encouraging words. An evil act that we must try to repair damages and help heal others.

shiningirisheyes thanks for reading and sharing your comment. I agree with you my dear friend. Things work for good, even when the effects of abandonment are harmful. That is why we need to be always focused.

This was a very thought provoking hub, that made me go into my inner self and look upon the times I have abandoned and been abandoned. As Shiningirisheyes claimed, it is a necessary evil in some cases.

      Great hub.

Very uplifting hub. Abandonment in one form or another touches all lives at some point. Although it is painful, it is also necessary for helping us grow as human beings. Unfortunately, when innocence is affected by abandonment, it can have disastrous and life-long results.
