If microbes can't think, are we able to think at the cellular level?
We generally assume that thought process involves nerves and neurons. But is it the way we assume it? or is it more than that?
While microbes or other one-celled organisms cannot think, they can react to stimuli and have programmed actions that allow it to live and reproduce. Thinking is not required. Their activities are governed by conditioned primordial responses to external stimulus.
Our cells respond in much the same manner. While each cell is unable to think, they do have a "memory" of what happens to them. So, while individual cells cannot formulate thoughts or plan out any activities, they can hold a memory of anything that happens to them. This may change their reaction to stimulus in the future; but, it is not a conscious, thought out change.
No, because it takes a network of connections to create thought.

This has been argued in other threads, but I feel it needed a thread of it's own.Do you think that it is possible for consciousness to start at the cellular level, why or why not? I think there is good evidence to show cells have a level of consciousness. One example is communication between cells....
