In a sense a person maintains a level of math and science that hardly changes over time , because if you don't know the basics, it's hard to grasp the further details.

I wouldn't say good , but I've always maintained an average level.

for the most part, I really struggled with Calculus in High School and physics for the most part wasn't too hard.  Biology though always gave me a hard time.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

I've always been interested in math, but when I was a kid I wasn't encouraged to do well in it. I took some advanced classes but didn't do much in them.

As a kid, I was pushed to become a nurse, teacher, or social worker. All of the women in my family have these types of careers. According to my family, there was no need for me to become a scientist/mathematician/physician.

It wasn't until I decided that I wanted to pursue a MD/PhD that I figured I had to change my mindset. I stopped seeing myself as someone who couldn't do it and as someone who can.

Women in science need mentors, people who can encourage them to go for it. And plus, it's never too late to go back to school. I met someone the other night who's working on a PhD and he's in his mid 40's. And I read about a woman finishing a PhD at MIT when she was 46.

    Are you interested in science?

    Take care!

I suck at basic math. When I do stats, I'm dyslexic and mix up the numbers. I am however, good at calculus, some linear algebra, some higher level differential equations, and am delving into game theory and chaos theory (mainly with bargaining theory, Nash Equilibria, and Lorenz transforms). I'm learning about Kalman filters. I love thermodynamics.

However, I still suck at the basics, and I tend to make a ton of mistakes. I'm both good and bad at math.

You? Why don't you answer your own question? tongue

Hey stuck in orbit I will be glad to answer my own question I just thought others would be more interesting. Ha. As for Science I always passed it by the skin of my teeth, I could do the work but deep down there was not much of an understanding in it, at least not enough to pursue being a scientist or anything that requires a lot of chemistry. Now math I have always sucked at. When I was getting my Criminal Justice Degree I had to do Algebra I and II and it was hard for me but I somehow got through it. Thanks for asking. Cheers,.

Alex B I guess this kind of answers your question for me as well. And I being one of those people that went to college when I was older, I had to get help from my teenage daughter at the time because she always aced math...lol. I can do math but I prefer not to lets put it that way and as far as science goes, I detest it. Thanks for asking, Cheers.
