In June of 2012 a US military drone "created a panic" on a Washington, DC highway as those who spotted the drone assumed it to be a UFO---the kind with an alien crew.

Might this 2012 incident offer some insight into the long history of UFO sightings reported in the US since the late 1940s?
Only to the extent that some people call anything unidentified extra terrestrial.
My sense is that in the American (and perhaps global) vernacular, the term UFO has come to mean "vehicle from outer space with aliens on board".
So, are most UFO sightings---even by those who insist that they've seen a "vehicle from outer space with aliens on board", simply misidentified military and defense craft?
