    Yes, this is often the case.  Popularity breeds contempt and jealousy within others.

    of course......if you are a nobody, who wants to pay you attention much less come after you!  But in all reality most popular people could care less about who is trying to do what------

    It's always the case. Just because someone has gained popularity among one subsection of society doesn't mean they've gained the respect of all or the mutual respect of their peers and thus they become targets for defamation.
