The Dead Sea , also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake in Jordan to the east and in the West Bank and Israel to the west.
The name Dead Sea is actually a kinder, gentler translation from the Hebrew name Yam ha Maved, which means, Killer Sea.

Also, this doesn't really relate - but, you can actually float quite easily on the Dead Sea because there is such an abundance of salt which allows for more buoyancy in the water.
The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth. It is located in a vally in Jordan over looking the West Bank. Its called the Dead Sea because of its high levels of salinity, the 3rd highest sea in the world interms of salt content, and unable to sustain any marine life.
