One billion times one trillion = one sextillion, or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
One billion = 1,000,000,000 (a 1 and 9 zeros)
One trillion = 1,000,000,000,000 (a 1 and 12 zeros)
To multiply the two together:
1. multiply the two 1's together (which of course gives you 1).
2. Add together the total number of zeros, giving you 21.
Put the answer of 1 that you got in step 1. in front, then add the 21 zeros onto it, giving you
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
...which in words would be written as "one sextillion".
I'm using American numbering throughout because that seems to be turning into the default system throughout the world.
Yes, as MickS noted, what is a billion?
U.S. numbers are
one million = 1 x 10^6
one billion = 1 x 10^9
one trillion = 1 x 10^12
So the answer is
1 x 10^21 (adding the exponents).
The sextillion people are correct.

I think it would be great if we could debate the economy not on the basis of "commonly known" or presumed but on the basis of provable facts with sources. I'll start, US deficit for 2009 (last budget made by Bush administration) 1.41 trillion, 2013 budget deficit is 901 Billion, meaning...

The nation's debt leapt $166 billion in a single day last week, the third-largest increase in U.S. history; the one-day increase for June 30 totaled $165,931,038,264.30 - bigger than the entire annual deficit for fiscal year 2007. This means that nearly $1,500 of debt was added for every U.S....
