Why are there so many words that start with a GL that have to do with qualities of light?
Words such as glimmer, gloss, gloam, glint, gleam, gloom, glitz, glim, glare, glaze and many others all have to do with light or light properties. I've not been able to find a common origin for these and the others, but even still, it seems that there must be more to it than just random coincidence. Anything come to mind . . . ?
hmm, that's a good question. I was thinking also about the graphics software called openGL, but the GL there just stands for graphics library.
It's probably to do with the development of glass, the Indo-European word is ghel. All those words you quote are rooted in ghel, and gives us : Germanic - glasam, Scandinavian - glossi, Irish - gloine, English - glare.
Just a guess, it's a long time since I did this stuff, the old memory isn't so good:-) I had a little dig around on the Internet but couldn't find much.

This word that all of us know had me thinking , how many words can be spelled out of the largest word ever written? Care to try? Create the words as long as short as you wish but it has to be a word

Using your hub name or your real name, scramble the letter up and see how many words you can make, if any.
