    Which way is up?

When the Earth is surrounded by space on all sides equally.

There is no up....there is no down.  Measurement and time are simple perceptions of an infantile species that refuses to think beyond the mobiles above their physical cradles. smile

Didn't you study Einstein? It's all relative. When you are on a cruise ship, sitting on a deck chair, are you moving? When you are in an airplane in a hurricane, how fast are you really going? Why aren't we crushed by gravity? (Centrifugal force is trying to sling us into space, and it would if not for gravity.) Isn't science fun?
