It ended after the reign of Cleopatra. It is then that the Roman Empire took hold - 323 bc
Egyptian kingdoms have fallen dozens of times. Throughout various periods Egypt was no longer ruled by Egyptian Kings, but by foreign ones. Some middle or late ruling dynasties were made up of Libyans, or Nubians, or Persians, or Greeks. Cleopatra VII and Ptolemy XV Caesarian were the last autonomous rulers of Egypt before it became a Roman province. Cleopatra was of Macedonian and Greek ancestry--not Egyptian. Caesarian was Greco-Macedonian and Roman. The pure Egyptians were treated as the under class under Macedonian hegemony. The last actual Egyptians to rule Egypt did so in the 4th Century BC.
