The United States of America wanted to annex Hawaii for their Pacific Fleet. In those days, all world powers were naval powers. Some Americans (mostly missionary's children) living in Hawaii wanted the United States to annex Hawaii. They didn't think much of the Hawaiian Kingdom. These two groups conspired and succeeded. Overwhelming majority of people living in Hawaii did not wish to be annexed by the U.S. It was the case of a minority group overwhelming a majority group.
