Albert Einstein had a theory that the universe was stationary so he changed his general relativity theory to adapt this theory known as the cosmological constant. He later abandoned this theory when the Hubble showed that the universe was constantly changing.

For me its Isaac Newton, the father of Physics is considered the best scientist ever by many. He formulated the 3 Newton's Laws of Motion and Newton's Law of Gravitation to name a few.
