Was Haeckel old news?
I am 42 and live in North Dakota. My High School science teacher and History teacher sent me to the office for writting a paper called "Lies In Our Text Books". The Haeckel drawings were still in our books. The Haeckel concept was still being taught. My youngest is now 17 years old. She re-wrote my paper for a class in School. She resides in Fort Walton beach Fl. She was not allowed to present it. Haeckel's work was still being taught and in her School. She discovered from ten Face book friends around the US. That Haeckel's work is still being taught. In ten different States.
Yes, that the Haeckel illustrations are inaccurate is "old news."
In fact, it has been known for over 115 years.

Thanks for the question, Jeff Hileman. I apologize for not getting to it sooner. Here are a couple of web pages which discuss Haeckel's drawings -- made in the latter part of the 19th century -- well over a hundred years ago.

Yes, old news.
There appear to have been a number of versions of the Haeckel drawing and some arguments and counter-arguments -- and some of both have been refuted.
It might prove interesting to discover how the Haeckel drawings were used in the textbooks. Where they used as an example of an earlier scientific idea, or as up-to-date and modern scientific theory?
It may well be that the context of the drawings in the textbooks is quite valid, but I wouldn't know unless I saw the textbooks.
Biblical Arrogance?
The war some biblical literalists have over evolution is entirely unnecessary. The disagreement they have also includes other elements of science (particularly those which show that humanity and the universe are far older than 6000 years). This is also unnecessary.
Why is their disagreement with science unnecessary? For one, because our Lord and Master said that we should have humility. But also because a timeline has been found in Genesis which is compatible with those of science.
Imagine that! The Bible and science in agreement, after all.

God demanded through revelation, that the fraud, lies, and impositions being presented and preached about him, as facts, from the “so called testaments” cease!!!

As if we needed more evidence that creationists are the dumbest people on the planet, I saw this hilariously terrifying story today:http://www.scotsman.com/news/odd/loch-n … -1-2373903This fall, some Louisiana private schools will be using new "science" textbooks that attempt to...
