Where does the "o" come from when we abbreviate "number"?
From the Latin word "numero" which means number.
Close, but "numero" is not Latin. ("Numerius" is the normal Latin version of this word.)"Numero" is, however, Spanish, French and Italian, barring an accent sign here and there.
I like this question and I am waiting for an answer...
