Personally, I feel that the soul is made of quantum energy. Tiny living particles with the will to experience any experience, so that it can confirm it's own existence, then store knowledge later for even more confirmation of existence.
There is no evidence that such a thing exists. Personality is caused by the brain. Physical alterations to the brain can alter you personality.
Dr. Duncan MacDougall of Haverhill, Massachusetts once tried to measure the weight of the human soul. He attempted this by placing dying people on a scale and weighing them at the moment of death. Although his findings were thought to be too inconsistent, he came across the determination that in all his patients there was some measure of loss that could not be accounted for. I urge anyone to look up this man and read for yourself.

That's the typical Sam Harris argument. How does suffering negate God's existence? Maybe He's just watching. It doesn't mean He doesn't exist and for anyone to bring up suffering as proof of no God is indication of a logical fallacy.
