Is sex necessary?
A question first asked, by James Thurber, but given the state of the world today, I thought it high time to ask again.
To sustain our species? Of course. On an individual basis? Not at all. Some people choose to live celibate lives and are at peace with that decision. That doesn't mean that there aren't challenges and temptations. But the same can be said for sexually active people.
All that said, I believe that for humans sex is mainly about pleasure and solidifying pair bonds since we are able and interested in doing it even when there's no chance of conception.
Let's be frank, sex is awesome. Not everyone needs to do it but most people choose too. I think most people would feel incomplete without it.
At this writing that is the popular and common method for continuing our species - so I'm thinking it will be around for a while - unless someone comes up with a better method.

Is it inherent in our makeup, like an instinct? Or does it have to be learned?

If a person establishes a restaurant, what need is that restaurant meeting? Is is food or is that too simple of an answer? Is it the experience or the convenience? Since the French Revolution, restaurants have been evolving and I think the question is interesting.

If someone chooses to be gay, then that means they are actually straight- and chose to be gay...... then doesn't that mean that someone chooses to be straight which really means they are gay- and chose (at some point) to be straight? Logical right?
