Another Hubber said, what if Britain and France intervened for the South in the American Civil War. It could have resulted in the defeat of the North and the survival of the South. Another what if is, the intervention of France during the American revolution. If France had not intervened, the thirteen colonies could not have won their independence from Britain. Another what if is, if the Russians did not enter the war against Japan the Russians would not have landed an army in Korea and occupied the North. In that case there would be no division of Korea into South and North. More importantly, the present Korea problem would be remote. I am thinking of writing another Hub on this topic.

What if World War 1 never happened?

The assassination of the Arch-Duke should not really have plunged the world into such a terrible war.  It's generally agreed that WW1 was the cause of WW2 and Hitler would never have come to power if it was not for the harsh conditions forced on Germany after WW1. The twentieth Century was dominated by those 2 wars.  Millions died - their descendants would be around now.  In WW1 virtually an entire generation of young men died. The role of women changed drastically.  Social structures changed; values changed.  Israel was created as a result of the Holocaust in WW2. Geographical borders in Europe changed.   I wonder what the world would have been like if WW1 just hadn't happened.

    I have two:

What if Adam hadn't been tempted by Eve?!

What if I'd been born in a different environment?  I'm lucky to have had my particular upbringing and life; sometimes I wonder what I'd have been like had I been born into less fortunate circumstances, with destruction and cruelty around me.....

If dinosaurs had outwitted and outlived man, that would have been a decisive moment in history.

What if Jimmy Hitler took over for his ailing brother back in '35? Jimmy was a nice, kind, decent sort of fella; he would have renamed Germany to FunLand and created a national theme park, where the world would have abandoned its warring ways and learned to make meals that actually went together.
