Should our middle school and/or high schoolers have The Hunger Games on their mandatory reading list
do you think it should be mandatory for high schoolers to read the Hunger Games to help prevent such atrocity in our country.
No. I loved the book, haven't seen the movie. I think it is too violent and I don't think reading something like that has any preventative effect. Whether a parent allows their child to read Hunger Games is entirely up to them. But, I don't like the idea of making a child read something so graphically and creatively violent.
We have to remember not to let things happen in real life that we are reading in imaginary. This book was actually written for the younger crowd which surprised me too. Our children are becoming very numb to the reality they see on tv today. So much is violence. My mother-in-law saw the movie and made an interesting comment that it close to reality tv in that we see people play through their live the good and bad and often it is not the good. Think about some of the programming on today. Hoarding, dance moms, the bachelor, where guys and girls are kicked off and we see their pain. Are we becoming numb to our fellow man's pain?
