For the math geniuses, or anyone else too, have our IQs increased due to technology . . .?
With all the new technology readily available at our fingertips, do you think that our IQs, as the human race as a whole, has increased and, if so, give an educated guess of the percentage of how much higher the average person's IQ is, than is what 30 years ago.
I am not sure our IQ has increased. There are debates over what IQ really means, but in general it is a measure of intelligence. We are smarter than our ancestors because we have more things we can learn and more tools we can use. There have been brilliant people throughout time that have made breakthrough discoveries that has opened up new areas. I think we are learning more because there are more things to learn, thus allowing us to do some things more efficiently, which means we are using the technology that has been developed over decades and not really overnight. Using a computer does not make me a smarter person. I still could not pass a trigonometry course if I had to or even a physics course. But I know things about those two subjects that I did not know if the past. So the short answer is that technology has allowed us to learn more, but I do not think it has made us any smarter.
