I do not rememer many experiements when I was in school, but I homeschool my kids and have helped them enter several science fairs. One of the best ones we did was in biology where we made our own incubater and then got some fertilized chicken eggs. We studied the stages of developement of the egg and timed the hatching for the science fair. For the fair we had several eggs hatching! I had my daughter do a board with all the stages the egg goes through. We were very popular at the fair!
