Why is there such a fuss over the color/gender of jesus?
What is the reason behind to debate on his/her color/gender? Would you worship less if he was black, Latina, or even Arabic with a scarf around his/her head?
I think that people get upset because it goes against their preconceived notions as to what Jesus was. I doubt he was black, white, or Latina. If one assumes he were a historic person, I suspect he looked Middle Eastern. And since they say "son" and "he," in the bible, I have to assume they meant "male." Since I don't believe he existed nor do I believe in the Christian god, it's pretty much a non-issue to me.
It shouldn't make a difference even if he were blue.
Unfortunately lots of people want to lay claim on Jesus resembling their own image. We also see this regarding other historical noteworthy people.
Some people take pride in being a part of the same group as someone who has made major contributions to mankind.
