If no actual image of Muhammad exists how do we know a cartoon is of the Prophet?
In this continual debate on cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad being blasphemous I am having problems understanding why. There are no images of the Prophet Muhammad. How can a cartoon of a man in a beard and turban be any more a cartoon or image of Muhammad than it is of me? So a name is put on it and states "Muhammad" it can't be of the actual Prophet unless you have an image you are comparing the cartoon to. And what does Islam do about those who are named Muhammad and have their picture taken. Is this, also, blasphemous to attach their name their picture i.e. Muhammad Ali? People are dying.
It's the label. If you drew a smiley face and labeled it "The Prophet Muhammad" then it would be blasphemous. By contrast, if you drew a picture of a middle eastern man from the time of Muhammad and labeled it "Frank" it wouldn't be blasphemous. Extremists will find any reason they can to do extreme acts.
No actual image of Jesus in his human form exists either, yet painters, cartoonists and the such have been dreaming up images of him for centuries.
