In what ways has childrearing in the United States have gotten better, more
inclusionary, and more democratic for children as opposed to the more autocratic childrearing practices of the 1950s and 1960s?
I believe the two best ways it's gotten better has to do with more fathers being active in raising and spending time with their children even when the mother is not around. In previous generations children were told not disturb their father and most parental bonding took place between the mother and children.
It's not a shock to see a father using a diaper changing station in the men's restroom to change their infant or out alone with children.
The other thing has to do with many employers granting fathers a leave of absence in addition to the mothers after the birth of a baby.
Traditionally it was always seen as the woman's responsibility to adapt alone. Today it's not uncommon to hear a couple to say:
