You're seeing many cultural Christians become secular, because most mainstream denominations have watered down their message to be like secular culture - and why not just do the secular culture and ditch the guilt and Hell altogether.
But the remaining Christian and Jewish cores are even stronger, because the less devout faction has left.
So you end up with smaller but more intensely loyal religious cores.
