Imagine if there were no sorrows, no pain, no anguish. If these did not exist, we'd neither understand and know what happiness is, what joy is, what liberation and freedom is.
What this means is that evil is in opposition to good. Without evil, we may not understand what good is.
In addition, we may not grow because without any form of resistance or opposition, there is no growth.
It's not necessary, but it unfortunately appears to be some people's nature or how they choose to be. The good thing is that some people's nature and choices are the complete opposite.
