A teacher is a regular student. The teacher who ceases to read should discontinue teaching. Do you agree?
To me teaching and learning is the same thing and a life process.
Reading is a great tool, yet not totally necessary. It's great for academics to understand the second to many times hand me down information.
A better teacher is first hand experience of the knowing.
For example, I travel over a hundred countries, it was the best learning experience in my life. Or my art bussiness for Over 40 year. A picture worth a 1000 words. You don't understand a culture through a different language yet seeing phots and pictures you get a better idea of their culture.
Thanks Castlepaloma for your great ideas. In the youthful stage leaning and teaching are different because the leaner's ideas are improved upon by the teacher who is more experienced. Here the learner receives while the gives, which makes teaching and learning different. At maturity, they may appear same because the adult turn to depend more on experience which connected to previous knowledge.
Our method of teaching are different. An academic approach to college or University for a doctors or lawyers, works. Also works, are alternative approaches of informal holistic medicine and pratice.
I have taught 1000s of artists and more have gone on to professial artist career ℅ wise, than out of formal college or University. They are learning from the experience of a doing rather than a teacher who dose not do enough in pratice.

There has been a lot of debate - here and in society - about the crisis of schooling and education reform. People have different ideas about what needs to be fixed - more/less funding, pay and testing for teachers, testing for kids, dump the whole system and start over...I was just wondering:...
