Summary On Earthquake.
Earthquakes can occur unexpectedly and without notice. An earthquake is a severe
and abrupt shaking of the earth's crust caused by the movement of tectonic plates
along a fault line in the earth's crust. Earthquakes may cause the earth to shake, dirt
to liquefy, landslides, fissures, avalanches, fires, and tsunamis. The degree of an
earthquake's devastation and harm are determined by:
magnitude, intensity, and time
the geology of the area
the time of day when it happens the form and materials of buildings and industrial
plants
the risk-management procedures put in place.
Earthquakes killed about 750 000 people worldwide between 1998 and 2017,
accounting for more than half of all natural catastrophe deaths. During this time
span, earthquakes affected around 125 million people, causing them to be injured,
homeless, or displaced.
