Lakes versus Oceans

Updated on February 15, 2013

The beauty of both

Why oh Why , my friends keep asking?

Can you not see the beauty here?

A lake so large, so still, so lovely

Should fill your heart with  cheer.

My friend I do see the beauty,

I´m loving these awesome sights,

But nothing compares to the ocean,

in my mind it´s plain black and white.

You see the ocean can take me home

I look at incredible colours.

the leaves that have fallen down,

crunchy underfoot--memories of childhood.

Look at my face. there´s no frown.

But the ocean can take me home.

The lakes are more than a wonderful sight

I understand what you are saying

but lakes are still, going nowhere,

stunning where they´re staying.

But the ocean can take me home.

I really enjoyed this Hub and I too love oceans! Too bad I have spent most of my life far away from the sea, but I do get to see it from time to time.

This Hub makes me want to see it more often.

    Love and peace

    Tony

    Ditto, my favourite vietnam vet.

Your latest cycling hubs have been fantastic. I can´t believe some of the pictures. They´re so beautiful, even though ..... no oceans..... God Bless.

..quite possibly my favorite hub by you or by anyone for that matter - because it holds something near and dear to my heart here - water - and as you probably know I live at Lake Erie here in Ontario, Canada (that's it behind me in profile picture) 100 feet across from the lakeshore road and I look at it every morning, noon and night and say to myself I am the luckiest man in the world to be able to enjoy this - much appreciation too and a heartfelt thank you for supporting me and making my day always with your wonderful comments!

That was beautiful, Saddlerider. Thank you. Got me thinking of yet another poem now.

I must go down to the sea again,

to the lonely sea and the tide

and all I ask is a tall ship,

and a star to steer her by.

    John Masefield, I think.

Take me down to the sea and let me frolic in the waves

and watch the seagulls fly on high

the driftwood caress the shores while

waves lap at it's shores and sand

crabs tickle my feet as I contemplate

the deep while watching a falling star

    caress the ocean tides

Yes the ocean beckons me from afar

I love the sea as well Dim and can feel your yearnings. Hugs

A very lovely poem with very deep sentiment for the ocean. How true that the lakes are beautiful but lead no where. Where as the ocean can take us to any destination we wish to go. Great hub.

    Love and Hugs

Ah, Dim. You have written something that could have come from my own heart. I am on the prairie right now and scan the sky every day for the way home to the sea both literally and metaphorically speaking. I really love this!

I love this poem ... so beautiful! As a prairie girl, I've only been to the ocean once, and its vastness scared me a little bit.
