A MODERN DAY FAIRY TALE

Updated on July 18, 2010

THE LAND OF LEM

Once upon a time in a far away land named Lem the people of Lem were very troubled. There were very evil people who stole the Lemming’s money. This caused much sadness among the Lemmings. It caused a lot of the people to lose their jobs and even their homes. The Lemmings had heard a rumor that a savior was possibly going to become their new King.

This great man traveled throughout the land making promises of a new day. He promised fundamental change in Lemming Land. The people were very hopeful that the promised one would cure the evils of present King Brush. The promised one was named Prince Obiwan. He gave the Lemmings many promises and great hopefulness of a new day dawning. The anticipation of King Obiwan taking the throne was a cause of true bliss to the Lemmings.

Thus it came to pass King Obiwan held a coronation and the gleefulness throughout the Lemming Land was unparalleled. The Lemmings danced in the streets while they shouted praises from the housetops. All seem well in the land of Lem. The coronation party lasted long through the night into the morning in a celebratory orgy. King Obiwan and Queen Minerva danced with glee in a celebratory victory dance. There was new hope in Lemming Land and everyone began to look forward to King Obiwan’s reign.

There were some evil minions of ex-King Brush still around, and they expressed doubt about King Obiwan, but they were ignored by the Lemmings. Even the little Lemming school children sang the praises of King Obiwan and there was great joy. Even the Peon family in Lemming Land, Mommy and Daddy Peon, and their daughter little Penny, were very glad at King Obiwan’s proclamations. Little Penny Peon was one of the little children who sang the praise of King Obiwan.

As time passed on dark clouds seemed to appear on the horizon of Lemming Land. Even though King Obiwan passed out many golden coins throughout Lemming Land, it seemed the Lemmings most in need were not included in the coinage collection. Even little Penny Peon did not get a penny. Soon stories of King Obiwan’s court jesters began to circulate about Lemming Land. These tales of the jesters troubled the Lemmings sorely they began to doubt King Obiwan.

Then the Peon family saw little Penny on television singing the praises of King Obiwan and were sorely troubled. Mommy and Daddy Peon said, “Penny when did you do that, and why did you do that”. Penny replied very sheepishly, “ Gee Mommy and Daddy the teacher taught us that song about King Obiwan and ordered us to sing to please King Obiwan.”. Mommy and Daddy Peon said, “That is the final straw. We are going right to that school and give that teacher a piece of our minds”. “ Penny said, ‘OK Mom and Dad, can I have a glass of Kool Aid?” Mommy and Daddy Peon looked aghast and said, “ No Penny we have told you never drink the Kool Aid!!!!!”. Penny said, “ But they give us Kool Aid all the time at school.” “Penny please go to your room Mommy and Daddy need to talk alone for a little while,” “Ok’ Said Penny and she skipped off to her room.

Daddy Peon said” We have been fools. No one has gone back to work. People are still losing more houses. Those jesters are true troublemakers. These folks are feeding Penny the Kool Aid. We need to go to the school. Come on Penny we are going to your school to talk to your teacher“. “Ok” said Penny.

Off went the Peon family towards Penny’s school. There were many clouds in the sky as they strolled down the street towards the school. There was even a little rumbling of thunder. As the Peons got within two blocks of the school they saw a crowd had gathered in the street outside the school. Penny asked “Daddy what are those people doing, and why are they carrying those things?” “Penny let’s just go back home I think the people are handling the school situation.” said Daddy Peon. Penny asked,” Daddy is everything OK now?” Mommy said, “ Hush Penny, it looks like things are OK.” “Penny said, “I want a sign.”

Just then the Peon family turned towards home and the clouds parted. A little drizzle fell and the Sun broke through the opening in the clouds. “ Oh, Oh whoopee Mommy and Daddy look at my sign it’s a rainbow. I learned in Sunday School that God gave Noah a rainbow as a sign things would be OK!!!” Penny exclaimed while jumping up and down and with a beaming smile. Mommy and Daddy said” Well I’ll be darned. I thought she meant the sign the parents were carrying.” simultaneously.

And they all………………………………………………………….
