Avatar Movie Masks - Avatar Halloween Masks and Replica Prostethics

Updated on July 6, 2011

Avatar Movie Masks this Halloween

Characters available for Avatar movie masks this year include Jake Sully, Neytiri and Avatar Na'Vi warrior masks

The James Cameron Movie Avatar is set to be re-released on August 27, 2010, including an extra 9 minutes of unreleased footage featuring love scenes and a new Pandora creature,Sturmbeast, which was previously only seen in Avatar Games.

This timing should heavily influence Halloween Costumes this year. If your child isnt already screaming for an Avatar Party or an Avatar Costume, James Cameron's marketing geniuses should soon change that for you.

With the holiday fast approaching, we decided to focus on the masks available for all the major Avatar characters.

For most of the year, Avatar Masks were a limited commodity, it would seem the industry has decided that Avatar masks and Halloween items will be in demand. I tend to agree.

The picture to the right features an Avatar prosthetic used in conjunction with make up.

Whether your looking for a simple slip on mask for a child's Avatar costume or a movie effects level prosthetic mask with paint and adhesive you will find examples from the Internets most respected retailers below.

Jake Sully Avatar Movie Masks

Jake Sully is an unlikely hero. He is wheelchair bound, a bit grumpy and at least at the beginning his loyalties do not lie on the side of the sympathetic characters, most notably the Na'Vi and the Scientists who want a peaceful symbiosis with them.

But since Jake's loyalties turn and he ends up kicking lots of ass, he will be the character most little'uns and adults will aspire to be for Halloween and Avatar themed parties.

When selecting a Jake Sully mask, keep in mind the length of time you may be wearing the mask and aim for mask that have good reviews or feedback at the sellers sites. Dont be cheap and end up uncomfortable on what is supposed to be a fun night.

Na'vi Avatar Movie Mask

Although Jake gets to be an Avatar that looks like a Na'Vi, its the actual Na'Vi that made the movie for me.Sure, its been done before, Dances with Wolves, FernGully, even The Last Samurai! But, the whole indigenous culture with earth centered ideals really speaks to me.

Keep in mind its going to take more than just the mask to do the Avatar Na'vi costume justice.

You dont want to end up looking like an overgrown smurf!

Some of the masks below are standard string on the back pressed kids masks, others are fully molded latex masterpieces and still others are movie effects prostheses, check the details before buying or bidding.

Neytiri Avatar Movie Mask - Latex

Im looking forward to seeing a bunch of little Neytiri's running around this Halloween. Its nice to see a powerful female warrior type as a role model for little girls .( I have one now) Even if it is an alien race, its still uncommon to see a family friendly yet strong and proud female character in popular movies.

The Kill Bill girl was pretty Bad ass, but Im not sure we want too many little emulators!

The Neytiri mask options are still a little thin compared to the standard Na'vi masks but with a little creativity and perhaps that BeJeweler you have laying around even a generic mask can be made to shine.

Childrens Avatar Costume

The demands for a Childrens Avatar costume are quite different then the adult versions. If an adult wants to do the Avatar thing they just need a loincloth, some latex body paint and a high quality mask. The kids on the other hand are better served with a false skin suit that shows the Na'Vi markings but keeps them decent!

The tail is an integral but difficult part of making your own Na'Vi costume and these kids options take care of that for you.

You will also find a selection of child sized Avatar masks in latex.

Avatar Na'Vi Warrior Movie Masks

Although the Characters have names, it seems Mask producers and retailers dont expect many to be familiar with them. The 'Warrior" mask seems to be modeled after Tsu'Tey, who is probably the Na'Vi character who kicked the most ass.

I expect many older children and adults to be attracted to this fierce Na'vi Warrior Mask.

Avatar Halloween Make-Up

If you choose to forgo a traditional mask and pursue an actual make up based transition from human to Na'vi the video to the right will assist you.

She uses no prosthesis and achieves a beautiful NA'Vi look using artistic skill and application of normal over the counter makeup and glam glitter.

A guide to all of the supplies and another copy of the video to follow along with are located here

If you are interested in all the special effects supplies and using actual Hollywood quality prosthetics to create your Avatar look then the following SFX supplier will help you get:

OMG! I saw one of these masks at the playground today and had no idea what it was! My grandson almost wet his pants trying to climb up my leg. Scared him to death!

Prosthesis are more comfortable than full masks, The Navi look is humanoid enough so a full mask isnt necessary to pull off the look.

I did not realise until now how big a thing Halloween is. As a Brit, we don't quite get it. I mean Halloween Prosthetics, what's that all about?

Avatar Movie Masks I can live with but there has to be limit somewhere, surely. But then I suppose it is the US taking product from China.

Avitar is my all-time favorite flick! I saw it in 3d and was well impressed. It was visually moving as well an emotional tale. Gives me a cool reason to dress like an avitar this Halloween! Thanks for a neat read.

Well you will have a second chance for the Avatar movie, in just a few weeks. I couldnt sit through it at home for a second viewing.

But the 3d version of this movie was truly masterful in its application, it actually is the only movie that has had an impressive real3d experience for me. Its worth seeing in 3d!
