Best Anime of 2013 Introduction

2013 is almost over and what an excellent year it has been for anime fans. I have a list of the best anime of 2013 in my opinion and please do not be sad if I didn't include yours here.

Kill la Kill

Kill La Kill

This anime aired just recently and it is already a very entertaining anime. Not only is it funny, it also has a lot of crazy moments just by watching the first episode. While I am not going to want to spoil it for you, this anime has the following characteristics:

  • Parody
  • Fan Service
  • Absurdness
  • Humor
  • Interesting Characters

If these are some qualities that you look for in an anime, you got one in your hands.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan(Shingeki no Kyojin)

Attack on Titan kind of took anime fans by storm with its excellent opening theme and jaw dropping scenes. This is one of the few anime that gave me a heart attack when watching. Only Death Note and Claymore were able to reproduce that effect on me. The story is about Titan's trying to annihilate mankind, and it is up to the humans to stop this crazy rampage. This anime has got the following characteristics:

  • Excellent fighting scenes
  • Plot twists
  • Zero fan service

Monogatari Second Season

Monogatari Second Season

Bake/nisemonogatari didn't disappoint anime fans with its amazing "character development" and "thought provoking" show. To be honest, while I didn't like it as much as some other anime fans, I put it here because of its raving popularity. The second season unveils a new chapter and the witty dialogue and references did not disappoint. This anime has the following characteristics:

  • Supernatural
  • Harem
  • Borderline fetish
  • Comedy

Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club

With so many harem anime out there, it is quite rare to see a reverse version, and a good one too. I watched a few episodes of it without realizing this was a fan service anime catered for girls. Well, it is interesting to watch and see what producers think women like. You know, crotch shots and six-pack abs. Aside for that, the anime does show that the characters actually care about each other and form nice relationships.

Rozen Maiden Zuruckspulen

Rozen Maiden Zuruckspulen

This anime is a sequel to the Rozen Maiden series. I have watched the first 2 + OVA and I really enjoyed the plot of the anime. The animation has of course improved over the years when you compare it to the first series. The anime has a "dark" feel to it and people that love this kind of theme would really enjoy it.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya

This anime somewhat reminds me of Zero no Tsukaima with no romance. The main protagonist is a magical girl and she has a crush on her adoptive brother(Shiro Emiya). I tell ya, anime has the funkiest relationship logic. This anime is part of the Fate series, but it is meant to be a light-hearted and funny one, unlike their more serious counterparts(Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero). It would be unfair to compare them.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

A high school comedy that lonely teens can relate to when it comes to the protagonist. The story is intriguing, slightly obvious, but interesting. Although some of the characters are stereotypes, there were others that really stood out. If you have only watched a trailer or the first episode, stick with it. This anime picks up and really shines as the story progresses.

Hataraku Maou-sama!

Hataraku Maou-sama!

Unlike 95% of the anime that involves high school, Hataraku Maou-sama! sets to be a little more unique. It does little things that really sets itself apart from many other romance comedies. The series starts out really dark but things get funnier when the protagonists enter Tokyo from the fantasy world and becoming humans. I particularly like their facial expressions and humor. From a Demon Lord to a real life fast food chain worker, who would expect that? :D

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S

This is a sequel to the first series Toaru Kagaku no Railgun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The second season focuses on The Sisters Arc. Well the diminutive nature of the girls might fool you into thinking that this anime is about flower and roses is far from accurate. This anime has plenty of action fighting scenes that are well done. I would encourage you to watch the first season before jumping into this for more understanding about the story.

Kuroko's Basketball 2

Kuroko's Basketball Season 2

Sorry guys, another sequel anime in the best anime 2013 list. I used to find myself comparing Kuroko's Basketball to my old favorite anime Slam Dunk. However, I have grown to like Kuroko's Basketball. Season 2 didn't disappoint me with the crazy maneuvers that even Lebron James can't do. Well, it wouldn't be as fun to watch if they did the standard basketball moves in an anime. If you enjoy Slam Dunk, try watching this without comparing it to Slam Dunk. You will find yourself liking it more.

Have you watched any of these anime?
