George Harrison The Quiet Beatle

Updated on July 25, 2011

George Harrison

Mr Harrison was born in Liverpool, England on February 25th,1943. He had one sister and two brothers, George was the youngest of the four. He met Paul McCartney at school and joined a band called The Quarryman, which also included band member John Lennon. George was all of 15 years old. Although the other members of the band thought of George as 'a kid' he certainly proved himself to be a man of talent. The Quarrymen eventually became our beloved:The Beatles.

George Harrison was such a talented man. It is hard to believe it has been 9 years from his passing. Although he was best known for his guitar playing in The Beatles, he was also a very talented singer-songwriter, actor and film producer.

Many think that The Beatles songs were all a combination of John Lennon and Paul McCartneys brilliance. But my all time favorite song, "Here Comes The Sun" was composed by Mr. George Harrison. Not to mention,  While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Something. He also wrote songs for Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and The Traveling WiBurys.

George Harrison collaborated with Ravi Shankar to organize and perform at a benefit rock concert to raise relief funds for the poor of Bangladesh during the Bangladesh Liberation War. We can thank him for many relief concerts that continue to occur as the Concert for Bangladesh was the first of this kind..

George released a solo album that was regarded to as his best work of all time! All Things Must Passreally told the world who he was. Not George the Beatle. Not George the 'kid' but George 'the talent.'

John Lennon Murdered

It was no secret that George and John Lennon were estranged for the years proceeding to Lennons death in 1980. George Harrison did not hold back his dislike of Yoko Ono. He denied her contribution to the Concert For Bangladesh, and he omitted her from his autobiography, I Me Mine.

However, from observation of the reaction of Lennons death by the remaining Beatles, Harrisons was most noticeable. He was obviously grief stricken. He was noted as saying; "After all we went through together I had and still have great love and respect for John Lennon. I am shocked and stunned. To rob life is the ultimate robbery in life"

Mr. Harrison was almost a victim of murder himself as a man of insanity broke into his home in 1999. He stabbed Mr. Harrison with a kitchen knife seven times. Landing Mr. Harrison with a punctured lung and head injuries. I will not name the intruder as I believe giving and sharing his name gives him fame, and no one who commits violent crimes deserve a day in fames light.

“I’m really quite simple. I don’t want to be in the business full time because I’m a gardener. I plant flowers and watch them grow. I don’t go out to clubs and partying. I stay at home and watch the river flow.”

Quote from Autobiography I Me Mine

November 2001

After battling cancer, Mr. Harrison passed away on November 29, 2001.

He was cremated and had his remains scattered in the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers in India.

There is so much to know about George Harrison. He was a man of Hindu religion and was inspired by and rejoiced India culture and music.

He was a private man.....a quiet man.

Rest in Peace Sir Harrison, you are a true man of character and talent.
