Silent Hill Movie Review

Silent Hill was one film that I bought awhile ago on dvd and just simply forgot about it, but now having watched it I can now review the movie and like many I've reviewed it is a gory one at times with it's bizarre mix of frightful otherworldly dimension horrors that occur throughout the film, the film is based on the video game of the same name and the story involves a woman and her daughter going to the mysterious town called Silent Hill which seems to haunt the dreams of the young girl, as she is an adopted child, there is some history associated with Silent Hill

The movie moves at a slow pace but an atmospheric pace that involves you along the way in every detail that the woman finds out after her daughter goes missing in the town and most of the movies time is spent looking for her daughter and the nightmarish dark demons and ghosts from another dimension that try and stop her, but as the story progresses we soon learn that the daughter shares a connection to the town of Silent Hill and the events surrounding it.

If you're not familiar with the story of the game, it's pretty much the same story with the town of Silent Hill being the main draw with three dimensions of the town being explored in the film, outside the town it seems that there is normal everyday daylight, but when the woman and the daughter arrive at Silent Hill it is foggy with ash falling from the sky and then later an air raid sound warns of the change to the dark which is in fact called the other world were all the dark evil creatures come out and you soon find out it's not safe in the otherworld.

The town itself seems to be full of history and we only learn a small glimpse of this in the film with an apparent coal fire burning deep underground, which probably explains all the coal ash flying around like snow and what film wouldn't be complete without religious nutters who think they know it all, good job a mess of barb wire kills them all off at the end.

The film is disturbing slightly and that's the appeal of it, and if you never knew of the game it doesn't matter, because this film stands on it's own and delivers some good scenes without it being overtly horror all the time, there's suspense and drama and a ghostly feel to the ending of the film.

This is one to watch as it was good and I liked the game too.

Highly recommended! and the DVD had a great making of featurette too which gave extra insight into the production of the film, that's why I like DVD, it's got more value and adds extras to the films.
