Horror on the Border
Horror on the Border
What Started Off as an Idea...
What started off as just an idea to get more horror oriented events and film showings in this region of the U.S. has turned into a full fledged investment of time, money, and effort by all who are now involved. The group was founded by myself, Joshua D. Brown, in late 2012. After consulting with many friends I have finally found a few that have what it takes to make this creation become a living, breathing, menacing, lifeform of literature/video/events that feeds itself from the horror industry. We do not want to chain ourselves in bondage to just being a "local eZine/Publication" that just covers things from the region. Our goal is to bring the global onslaught of everything horror to this region which is lacking in anything horror related. Nearly a full year into the vast unknown, we have huge plans for the future of Horror on the Border which include bringing horror related celebrities to the region, horror music to towns that surround us, and to create a large horror following. I mean come on, everyone loves horror whether they want to admit it or not. Monthly movie nights are planned along with a constant random flow of contests to win free stuff on the homepage. We will be launching an official website around November. We hope to see monthly printing of the publication by November as well. Where does this all lead and what is in it for followers and fans alike you ask? Well, by the end of 2014 we will more than likely bring you a horror convention with some of your favorite horror films stars, films, and special other surprises. I hope you guys will all enjoy what we have in the works because the staff is currently working for free to bring this to life so stick with us and share our vision with the world to help us grow. Once we start the monthly publication it will be in the form and tradition of the old school "Misfits Fiend Club" monthly newsletters. Black and white, chock full of all the info you need to know in the horror world monthly. It will also encompass the ever growing news from the region that counts as real life horror. The cost of the publication is yet to be determined and we will look for local sponsors to help us get it up and off the ground. The cost will not be outrageous, I promise you that. We will have membership packages available as well that will include a 6 month subscription, a shirt, a sticker, random free VIP entries into the events, and a membership card. If you want the BEST in regional horror film news and national horror updates then this will be for you. There will always be imitators but we are the first and ORIGINAL horror community to do this in this region. Don't be fooled by the rest. STAY TUNED ALL YOU FIENDS! Much MUCH more to come down this road...so creep wearily through the dark with us as we grow into a monster which will be unstoppable.

JOSHUA DAVID BROWN ( J. B. Damned )
Born and raised mostly in Northwest Ohio has allowed Mr. Damned to get full access to numerous horror conventions which include Cinema Wasteland, HorrorHound Weekend, Days of the Dead, and many more. He has worked on several film projects as a script consultant, co-director, special effects makeup professional, and set design. Some of the films he is featured in are "The Basements of Allen County" and "The League of Extraordinary Alcoholics VS. The Horde Of really Creepy Undead Zombie Flesh Eaters", one of the longest named films in history. Both of which have become lost somewhere in the catacombs of time, dust, and the interwebs. Working with Patrick Jordan from "CXI FILMS" and "TWILIGHT FILMS" has been his jumping ground into the pool of blood that Mr. Damned has found himself in doing SPFX makeup to this very day. An undying passion for the entire horror genre and any related genre has fueled him to create and found Horror on the Border to be able to bring what he likes to the people of his new hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas (Dubbed many times, HELL ON THE BORDER"). Turning 30 years old on September 13th, 2013, Joshua has found himself at a crossroads where he must choose which side of the fence to jump off of and where to land. Some of his major influences include the directors Jim Van Bebber, Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, George A. Romero, Fred Vogel, and a few select other. J.B. Damned has become more of a gore hound after dving into the word of special effects makeup. "I remember watching the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead that makeup artist Tom Savini directed and from that point on, I was a huge fan of Tom Savini and his makeup work. He is the best there is when it comes to SPFX makeup. I look up to him for inspiration every time I have a SPFX gig." Joshua is known to say often. Mr. Brown is the founder of Horror on the Border and The Fort Smith Starving Artist Collective. He also paints, writes scripts, does cinematography, photography, sculpting, and more but it is ALL horror related. Fort Smith, Arkansas has a lot more to see from this rising young man when it comes to horror and booking horror related music along with other music. He is known to book bands such as Jason and The Punknecks, Charlie Don't Surf, Abby and The Norms, FIRST JASON, Brutally Frank, The Itch, Full Story at Midnight, The Decomposed along with many of the various local artists such as Jacob Cotner's one man ensemble band, Anything or Everything. That has just been since he relocated to Fort Smith, Arkansas from Toledo, Ohio in late 2010. Keep your eyeballs pulled out for what is next to come!

Jason went through the University of North Texas’ film program and obtained a degree in Radio, Television, and Film. Jason’s specialty is screenwriting. He has written several feature length scripts, one has been purchased and made into a film. The film is called “Manje”. Jason has produced and directed 1 feature film, and 3 short films.

MEGHAN M. POPE (Mistress Morticia Macabre)
Hailing from Fort Smith, Arkansas, Meghan has been a student of classical ballet for over 30 years. She has taught dance for the past 3 years professionally. She is fluent in french as well. When it comes to dance, she has performed, taught, and trained for many various dance disciplines. She graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor's in Art History. One of the best, if not the best, bartender in the Fort Smith area, she has been a bartender for the past 10 years on top of doing everything else she has going on. At the age of 3 years old she was exposed to Alfred Hitchcock, Halloween, Poltergeist, and everything that featured Elvira : Mistress of the Dark. Elvira became a staple in Mistress Macabre's life and has been a Heroine to her ever since she first laid eyes on her. She got her passion to be a horror hostess from growing up watching Elvira and other horror host late night television spots. She has full sleeve tattoos which include all horror related icons including the villain from the ballet, Swan Lake, Von Rothbart and the villainess Odile also from the same ballet. Watching older classic horror films from the silver age of Hollywood home alone on the weekends in college built an undying love for the Universal Monster classics. A few of her favorite classics include "The Bride of Frankenstein", "Frankenstein", "The Wolfman", "Dracula", "The Mummy", "The Creature From the Black Lagoon", and her all time favorite film/book/musical play/songs about "The Phantom of the Opera". Her mother was the school librarian from Meghan's early age to her late 20's and that has given her a strong love for literature and books that are horror oriented. Now that she has joined Horror on the Border as an editor/performing contributor/accountant, she has built a repertoire as Mistress Morticia Macabre and will soon be hitting the road with "Mistress Morticia Macabre's HORROR BALLET".
