Vivienne Westwood designed the beautiful dress that Katy Perry wore to the 2011 America Music Awards.

What a pity she didn't take the time to translate those Chinese symbols.

Katy Perry was pretty in pink all evening with two wonderful outfits, while the whole of China giggled hysterically.

Read some of the comments at the Ministry of Tofu, which is a website that translates stories from the Chinese press into English.

The symbols on this dress represent the Communist Party's current favorite slogan. It translates as "green economy", which isn't so bad, except it makes Katy Perry, and perhaps even Vivienne Westwood herself, look like Communist sympathisers.

The Communist Party are at long last talking about creating a greener China, but they have an uphill battle ahead of them.

China's pollution is notorious, and the man in the street suffers intolerably through the grime and smoke that infest his everyday life. Some days whole Chinese cities are enveloped in thick blankets of choking smog.

But what a beautiful dress it is, regardless of what the Chinese writing actually says.

We are used to seeing pop stars appear in the most ridiculous and outrageous outfits, but this dress is perfection personified.

In a pale pink with the Chinese lettering in dark, bold colors, her whole outfit even matched perfectly with the American Music Awards slogan in the background.

Even her hair was dyed a subtle shade of pink, and contrasted beautifully with the pastel pink and blue luminescent hair ornament she wore.

To me, what really set her whole outfit off, was the shoes.

Have a close look at them as they are perfect. I so want a pair of them, even if they are well outside my budget.

In a stunning pale blue with 6" stiletto heels, and low platform, they look just incredible with her hair, her Chinese dress and her hair ornament.

Later in the evening, Katy Perry changed into one of the most stunning outfits I have seen on a performing artist.

Modern day artistes are usually known for their bad taste, wearing clothes that are too revealing or that were designed for people of a different body shape.

This outfit is wonderful. I might not wear the top, nor put my hair in that strange fashion, but the skirt is incredible, and all three look just great on Katy Perry.

This outfit/dress - I have no idea if it is a one-piece or not - has an almost gypsy-looking pink skirt and a top that wouldn't look out of place on a 70s glam rocker, while the hair is rolled flat on top like a 40's Victory Roll.

The end result, on Katy Perry, is amazing.

She even has a matching pink guitar!

Wonderful stuff.

Katy Perry's Makeup

Katy Perry's flawless makeup was applied by makeup artist Jake Bailey, and afterwards he told People magazine what he did, so that people can re-create this look at home.

  • Guerlain’s Les Viollettes loose powder
  • Large kabuki brush
  • Nars Madly tawny blush
  • Nars Orgasm, a coral shimmer blush
  • Le Metier liquid liner
  • 2 sets of false eyelashes
  • CoverGirl LashBlast 24-Hour Mascara
  • CG’s LiquilineBlast Violet Voltage eyeliner
  • Small shadow brush
  • Coral red CG LipPerfection lip color in Flame
  • Small lipstick Brush

He started off with buffing a liquid foundation onto the skin with the kabuki brush and setting it with the Guerlain’s Les Viollettes loose powder.

Then he used the Nars Madly blusher with just a little of the coral shimmer on the cheekbones.

The liquid eye liner was then applied to elongate Katy's eyes, before the two sets of false eyelashes were applied, then finished off with Covergirl LashBlast 24-Hour Mascara.

The lower lashes were lined with CG’s LiquilineBlast Violet Voltage eyeliner, and softened with the small shadow brush.

Finally, the lipstick was applied normally using the tube, before the edges were refined with the small lipstick brush.
