Last Chance Harvey
Movie Review
My husband surprised me by gifting the DVD Last Chance Harvey starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson on Mother's Day 2009. My reaction was luke-warm positive. My husband had expected a warmer response upon opening his beautifully wrapped gift. Yes, it was a movie I wanted to see, but purchase it? Receive as a gift? Well.........
I watched Last Chance Harvey with my husband. We both loved every minute. A "real" people type of plot and subplot. This movie had great acting, fabulous characters that were easy to relate, and a charming story set primarily in England. The main theme is about getting a "last chance" and taking advantage of the "last chance". This type of opportunity is something most of us would like to have. Second chances, especially last chances do not happen very often in a person's lifetime; very precious. Last Chance Harvey explores the positives and negatives of a "last chance"; portrays how this can affect and impact other's lives.
Since my initial viewing in 2009, I have watched this DVD numerous times both wide-screen and full-frame presentations. Enjoyed all of the "extras" too. Last Chance Harvey ended up one of the best Mother's Day gifts to receive. My plans continue to be watching Last Chance Harvey over and over and over and over. It is that superb of a movie.
Last Chance Harvey, directed by Director Joel Hopkins, was released in 2008. This film is 1 hour 40 minutes in length, not too long or short. My husband found the length to be just right, but he prefers his movies to run on the short side (for him 2 hours is too long). I was surprised by how much they covered in the time frame. Last Chance Harvey is rated PG-13, primarily for its adult subject matter and plot; parental discretion is advised for those 13 through 17 years of age.
Dustin Hoffman fan? Definitely place Last Chance Harvey on your "must see" list; same for Emma Thompson fans. They both were their expected excellent! Highly recommend!
Enjoy!
