The International
Movie Review
The International released in 2009 starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts is a very thought provoking espionage action film. The director Tom Tykwer excellently portrays Interpol and the New York District Attorney office, showing what they can and cannot do in a realistic fast paced setting and storyline. The special effects were well done. Cast and Crew created an excellent piece; felt a part of the current international scene.
The International expertly leads its viewers into a criminal underworld filled with money laundering, arms dealing, and political interference from an international financial institution who's sole goal is to control the world debt. This global bank stops at nothing, acts above all law, and by any means thwarts anyone who stands in its path of "profitable" ventures. The executives to this bank are an unusual mix, including one being an ex-communist General from the Soviet Union. It does bring up interesting points about the international economic scene, destiny, choices, and how even a "good" man can fall into the trap of lowering himself to the same level as what he is fighting against; comprimising one's principles for the greater good.
The International is rated R, primarily for the hired gun murder scenes. They look realistically bloody. The props technicians knew exactly what they were doing when they put together the "shoot-em-up" scenes. Parents it is highly recommended minors under sixteen do not view this due to the degree of adult subject matter shown. There are adult scenes and material (ideas shared by the characters) in this film which most parents would prefer their sixteen and seventeen year olds avoid. This movie is a good choice for adult couples to watch as something fun to do. It appeals to both men and women.
The International is available on DVD. This film is worth spending the time viewing even though similar to those in its genre. If a Clive Owen fan, this movie is "a must see." He is excellent as Interpol Agent Louis Salinger. Are you a Naomi Watts fan? As New York District Attorney Elenor Whitman, Naomi Watts expertly portrays a very strong intelligent person; great positive female role. Do watch!
Enjoy!
