Modern Family - A Comedy TV Show Hit
I first heard about Modern Family about a year ago. Someone on Twitter was raving about this "hilarious" show and I didn't think much about it. I thought it was just another comedy TV show, something along the lines of Arrested Development or Community - both shows I'd never really gotten into (and no offence to those that enjoy these shows).
For those that haven't had the pleasure of watching this show, you are going to be pleasantly surprised. It's fresh, funny and relate-able. And, it has a ton of incredibly talented actors (not to mention writers) on board!
It's even been said that President Obama enjoys watching this show with his family - now THAT says a lot about a show!
What is Modern Family about?
Modern Family is a comedy TV show set in a semi mockumentary style that explores the lives and the day-to-day happenings of an unconventional extended family in California, USA. This extended family consists of three separate families who are interrelated through Jay Pritchett and his two children, Claire Dunphy and Mitchell Pritchett.
The Dunphy's
The central family of the show includes mom, Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) - a stay at home mom, and dad, Phil Dunphy (Ty Burnell) - a Real Estate Agent and wanna be "cool dad."
They have three children with whom they try and have an open, honest and healthy relationship: Hayley (Sarah Hyland), the popular, image conscious teenager, Alex (Ariel Winter), the too-smart-for-her-own-good middle child, and Luke (Nolan Gould), the youngest child who is known as the "scatterbrain."
The Pritchett's
Claire's dad Jay (Ed O'Neill) comes across as a tough guy with a dry sense of humour, who also has a hidden soft heart. He is married to the beautiful and much younger Colombian born Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and they live together with Gloria's son, the very precocious but wise Manny (Rico Rodriguez).
Mitchell and Cameron
Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) is Claire's brother and Jay's son who lives together with his life partner Cameron (Eric Stonestreet). Mitchell - a Lawyer is slightly more uptight than Cameron (Cam) - who has a flair for the dramatic, but both balance each other out perfectly as they take on their roles as doting fathers to their adopted baby daughter,Lily.
