Project Good Words | Source

The Start Of It All

In 2014, Jo_Goldsmith11 took it upon herself to initiate the Light2Love Project Good Words.

Jo pledged to use good words and publish articles used to empower, encourage, support and defend those who need to be shown love.

Jo offered us a good word for each week to focus our thoughts, behaviors and actions on...In the 4th week, Jo wrote her perspective on the word strength.

However, as 2014 came to an end, Jo filed away her Good Word articles - as she begins the process of publishing it in e-book'. Shyron E. Shenko continues to write a beautiful poem to accompany each Good Word to inspire and lead us.

The ripple effect of the Good Words Project throughout the HubVille community has been heartwarming.

Please join me with some of my musical thoughts and reflections on the word strength...

Strength in Music

To me, strength goes way beyond brute muscle, power and show of force. The truly strong person possesses self-confidence, resilience and adaptation to the wildly unexpected twists and turns of life. The truly strong person survives, even thrives in these instances...!

Over the years others may have seen me as stronger than I have actually felt. Until now, I have never shared the secret to the appearance of my strength...!

I sing powerful and strong songs before, and sometimes during, things that frighten me. It may be while I am driving or in my head on a train, plane or walking...

If I am driving to a conference or class I teach, I carefully select my musical soundtrack. Even though I'm not anxious at this stage of my career, I always want to be strong, upbeat and positive when entering the class room.

The one song of strength that has been my ongoing mantra since 1979, the year I graduated high school, is Gloria Gaynor's: "I Will Survive"...!

I've selected a plethora of other powerful lyrics that I have grown to love over the years as well. Are there any songs or lyrics that bring STRENGTH to these do for me? If so, please share YOURS in the comment section below... thanks, mar!

Strength in Lyrics

You thought that I would die without you - But I'm livin' (1)... Now this is a song to celebrate - The conscious liberation of the female state - Mothers, daughters and their daughters too, oh yeah - Woman to woman, we're singin' with you (2)... What doesn't kill you makes a fighter - Footsteps even lighter (3)... When the deck is stacked against me - I just play a different game - My roots are planted in the past - And though my life is changing' fast - Who I am is who I wanna be (4)... Ricochet, you take your aim - Fire away, fire away - You shoot me down, but I won't fall (5)...

Ali Brustofski: Titanium

Lyrics of Strength

And if I only could - Make a deal with God - And get him to swap our places (6)...after all this time - Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind (7)... Well I know what's right, I got just one life - In a world that keeps on pushin' me around - But I'll stand my ground and (8)... And what it all boils down to - Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet - 'cause I've got one hand in my pocket - And the other one is playing the piano (9)... My make-up may be flaking - But my smile still stays on (10)...

Queen: The Show Must Go On

Lyrical Strength

Cause I believe there's a place - There's a place where we belong (11)... And knowing that you would have wanted it this way - I do believe (12)... Oh as long as I know how to love - I know I will stay alive - I've got all my life to live - I've got all my love to give (13)...

Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive

Artist - Song - Words of Strength

Destiny's Child - Survivor (1); The Eurythmics - Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves (2); Kelly Clarkson - Stronger (3); Reba McEntire - I'm A Survivor (4); Ali Brustofski - Titanium (5); Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (6); Elton John - I'm Still Standing (7); Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - I Won't Back Down (8); Alanis Morissette - Hand In My Pocket (9); Queen - The Show Must Go On (10); Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up (11); Chicago - Feelin' Stronger Every Day (12); Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive (13)

Of All My Gal Pals

When I think of Strength, I know that both Paula and fpherj48 fit the bill.

Paula has been my friend now for well over two years. She is a tower of power when it comes to her friends. That's a wonderful feeling when one is in need of common sense, a giggle or a 'swift kick in the bootay'... in no particular order.

fpherj48 writes with a quick, passionate and strong-wielding pen. Her musings are informative and thought provoking. If you've not had the opportunity to check out Paula's writing, I have included some links below that highlight her strength. She has many others worth checking out as well...

And now I would like to pass the baton of the Project Good Words to you, Paula, with the word of strength.

Hugs and thanks, Maria

I couldn't agree with you more, Car51...physical almost seems the least important in the mix.

Strength -- sounds physical, but improtant to remember mental, emotional, spiritual, all our interior unseen qualities of life.

I'm just a bit slow :) Anyway...I am very familiar with Paula, or as I so lovingly know as, my Effer! She, along with you, gives strength to their friends so freely. You are both two of the kindest, most thoughtful women I know. Effer is one of a kind...kinda! :) We Will Survive, because we are women and you could hear us roar! xoxo

Dearest Mar, It took me a while but it all became clear after I listened to the song, Titanium. Wow, what a powerful voice Ali Brustofski has and the words of her song are truly strong. The video story was great and brought back so many memories of things past. Thanks for the introduction to this artist. Strength. Aha! That was my aha moment. And a wonderful moment when the message came through. As usual, your subtlety and vast musical knowledge shines in this hub.

Your story about singing when you need strength, like before a class or on a highway or train or plane - you've provided such a keen insight into what drives you onward. That is powerful. Thanks for letting us in on your musical motivators and for the beauty of these songs. Queen, ah, yes. What a strong and beautiful man Freddy was. Wonderful choice. And Gloria G, who can resist that song whenever things get tough. Beautifully presented. Lovely.

effer, If you were blushing, then I would know you were rushing...cuz then it would be more like flushing...and let's face it, bad girl... flushes and flashes are history... so, chill, take your time and we'll love what you write, whenever you write it...alright...?! :))) LOVE ya, Maria

Vicki, Your comment is utterly beautiful and made me tear up... pretty weak for such a 'strong gal', I know...! I love how you call me complex when others call me...well, let's not get into that, Andy may be listening! Your friendship, encouragement and support truly means the world.

Ruby, I'm so happy you are checking out some of Paula's writing and knew you would love it. Ah, I also like Helen Reddy's song - perfect! Thanks for your visit, votes and the share, my friend.

First before i tell you how magnificent this is, i wanted to tell you that i visited Paula's hub, ' Journey to the woman i am today ' and i loved it. So thank you for introducing me to another great writer. Now, the lyrics, the songs you've listed are great ones. I might add another, ' I am woman ' by Helen Reddy. Mike is right on! Not people power, woman power, hear us roar! How very strong you are Mar and we all love you...I will survive has been my motto for years. Voted up and away..Tweeted..

      Dear Maria,

When I think of you, one of the first words that comes to mind is 'Strength'. Of course there are many others that describe you too, dear friend, kind, delightfully wacky, tender, caring, humorous, musical encyclopaedia, best doggie parent in the whole wide world, and the list goes on.

All this explains your wonderful complexity, and you have needed these facets to help you recover from events in your life that have challenged your strength. Without them you could not play "I will survive" and know that you have done so.

Like all your friends who have commented here, I am in awe of your talents, and am tremendously privileged to have you as my close friend. But our Sistas and Sir Mike are all part of a big, unbeatable strength pack. Don't mess with us, cos we'll back each other to the nth degree!

      Love you, our strong woman.

I am flattered to the Nth. degree and graciously accept the baton, Maria my sweet friend. Thank you.

I promise to do my very best to carry it on and give "Strength" a run for the money.

I ask for patience because I'm not the Wile E Coyote of my youth.."Beep-beep!" In fact it hurts to simply remember those crazy races....Ouch!

You all have me blushing with your love & kindness....(and since you know me so well at this point.....OK, that's BS....I don't blush.)

I DO love each and every one of you and hold you in my heart at all times.

Maria, your hub is superb, as always. Whatever you do, you do it with enviable style and grace. When I grow up, I want to be you.

      Bless you and PEACE.......Paula/Effer/fpherj48

My dearest, Mar, Strength, Love, Faith, all of them are truly the most awesome Good Words, and tagging them to music is such a brilliant idea.

      I'm a survivor.... I'm a woman in love.... I will survive....

Effer can be glad I am not into women.... she is a stunner and her strength is very obvious in all her writings.

Lots of hugs to you and all :)

Thanks for "listening" to these videos on your way home yesterday...hoping it gave you strength with the traffic...!!

I wish I had been around the 'concert circuit' when you and your hubby were 'a couple years younger'! Chicago would have been amazing to see live for sure! You are right in how times have changed...

Thanks for your ongoing friendship, support and love. I hope you know how much strength I derive from women like you... and yes, I am also looking forward to Paula's unique take on this subject.

Have a peaceful day. Love you, Maria

      Hi Maria,

I saw the email notice that you published your next "Good Word" of Strength Musical Challenge hub when I was about to head home this evening for my long commute, and I thought, I will just listen to these great songs on my drive home. You rocked it on the "Strength" home front with your choice of songs. I really enjoyed listening to Titanium! I love it and guess I have never heard it before ... but I am so thrilled it helped you through a rough patch. It is powerful. Music can certainly lift our spirits. I cannot go one day without listening to music. I have always loved, "I Will Survive" and that song brought back a flood of memories from the past, in the late 70s and early 80s of when my husband was stationed in Tampa in the Air Force, and we went to the discos, briefly, as we were pretty much rockers then LOL ... And of course, Queen ... another awesome choice. I thought of Chicago's "Feeling Stronger Every Day" and we saw them here just right up the road in a smaller outside venue when our son was a child. He went too. Times have changed.

I know just how strong you are dear Maria and you are truly an inspiration to all you know and love you. Paula is certainly a beautiful and strong woman. I will check out your links you have shared here of her hubs. I will look forward to reading Paula's hub on strength too.

So many beautiful and strong women here on HubPages.

Up ++++ tweeting, pinning, G+ and sharing, of course!

      Hugs and love to all

      Good Evening, Friends,

Bill, Thanks so much for your very kind words to both Paula and me... you are a doll!

John, It's great to see you here and I appreciate your wonderful remarks.

Sha, 'Titanium' is one of those songs that got me through a distinctly rough spot along my journey... I can conjure those lyrics up in a quick heartbeat! "We have gained REAL friends" You are so right, my friend and I also consider myself truly blessed. LOVE you!

Gail, Not surprised that you like Gloria Gaynor's song as well! I always love when you pay a visit, my dear friend.

Mike, Oh I suspect those hairy and scary monsters would be laughing and singing the "Monster Mash" after the Honeys of HubVille told them a 'thang or two'...! Thanks for such a cool comment.

Hope you all have a peaceful evening. Hugs, Maria

If King Kong, Godzilla and a Tyrannosaurus rex got into a tug-of-war, oh, scratch that, a Karaoke Contest with marcoujor, Paula, Vicki, Sha, and Martie Peg, Jo, Genna, Ruby, Nellieanna and Gail, I’d bet on the ladies. Wait, looking at that lineup I would take odds on the tug-of-war. Now seriously, so much strength is displayed here in the heart of Hubpages and at the core are these women.

As always mar, your song choices are finely tuned to your work. I actually heard of one of them. yeah

Mar, as much as I love music you always manage to bring artists to light of whom I'm unfamiliar. I love the song Titanium. I've never heard of this artist. She's so young. Good for her for recognizing and maintaining her strength.

Your choice of Paula to take the "strength" baton is perfect. I just love her to death. She's become my good friend also. You, Paula, Martie, and Vicki are always there to support me when I'm down or doubting myself. Paula shoots from the hip and means what she says. What a wonderful circle of friends HubPages has provided us. We have gained REAL friends - not just followers (although many are just followers) - from this wonderful venue.

When we find friends who share in our joy, sadness, ire, frustration, and momentary lapses of reason who come forth and hold us up with the intangible shield of friendship, understanding, and support, we are truly blessed. I am one of the blessed.
