Supernatural

Supernatural such a wonderful TV series that started off pretty much like the X-files in the horror themes that it has within each episode, now it has taken on an original mythology of its own in it's world of demons, but few angels.

The main start and idea of the show is to set up where the main characters are and what they have been doing after two brothers are raised by their dad after their mother is killed by the Yellow Eyed demon, who seemed to seek out so called special children with powers, together with their dad they go off hunting demons and searching for the yellow eyed demon to exact their revenge.

The stories are pretty good and that's what make it one of the best shows on television, the way the brothers are written to interact with each other are just great and the witty one liners that Jensens character Dean always has to get the last word in, plus Dean is always eating something in each episode, go on take a look, a burger one minute a pig in a poke the next!!

While there is a danger with any type of program with the main concept of evil demons and other big bad dudes as you cannot replicate the same atmosphere in each series, just take a look at Buffy The vampire slayer as an example, but what they can do is like any other TV show is concentrate "like they have been doing" on other horror films to turn to for inspiration, because what I find fun is they try and work in some references to horror films and even other types of films, there was even a die hard reference in one episode, this makes the TV series more fun to spot little things like this.

I myself like the way Supernatural is going as a series, while I know that some series, especially the ones on the American networks could get cancelled at a moments notice, sometimes even if they do well with the ratings!! And I know pretty much that Supernatural will probably not go past Five Seasons, which is a good thing, just in the way of programs like Lost, the network execs want to wrap up these multi - story arc series as people often complain of dragged out story threads and nothing getting explained often.

The last episode I can remember is were Dean got killed by a hellhound that had come to take his soul to hell and that's pretty much where we left him in hell calling out for his brother Sam. I can't wait for the 4th series to hit over here as I know it has aired and is still going on in the US.

The success of supernatural pretty much is because of every other horror genre and sub genre before it, so that is what has inspired such a creative team who are all fans of the horror genre.
