Ten Korean Entertainment Reunions that Must Happen

Updated on April 29, 2015

1. DBSK/TVXQ

The Past

  • They were formed by SM entertainment in 2003 with five members named U-know Yunho, Max Changmin, Hero Jaejoong, XiahJunsu and MickyYoochun.
  • The group is more popularly known as “TVXQ!” which stands for Tong VfangXien Qi.
  • Their albums are also released in Japan where they are known as Tohoshinki. In Korea, their fans known them by DBSK or Dong Ban Shin Ki.
  • The band first gained international attention with their 2006 album “O”-Jung.Ban.Hap. They continued to be popular in 2008 with their album Mirotic. Both albums won the group the Golden Disk Award for Album of the Year.
  • The singles that they chose to release were always chart toppers not only in Korea, but also in Japan, and TVXQ was also the first KPop Group to perform at the Tokyo Dome. Their prominence and level of performance are often compared to the Beatles.

The Break Up

Ideal Reunion Project

  • It would be nice to see the five members perform their original songs in a jamming session that’s similar to the Beatle’s last performance.
  • The proceeds of their concert should, of course, all go to charity.
  • It would also be nice to have a documentary released about the original group wherein all the members, in an interview, would recount their happy memories together. Fans would also like to know what each group member is planning to do after the major reunion.

2. 1N2D Season 1 Cast

The Past

The Break Up

  • The show, even during the first season, experienced numerous cast changes due to the personal and professional circumstances of the actors.
  • For example, Kim Jong-min was called for military service which signaled his last episode in December 2, 2007. As one cast member says goodbye, someone else is introduced.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • A grand overnight with all the cast members of the first season, and clips showing the group visiting each member’s favorite spot.
  • The ending of the grand reunion should be at the “starting point” of season one episodes. The proceeds of the reunion should also go to the development of tourist spots in Korea.

3. Shinee and Baby Yoogeun

The Past

  • The reality TV show “Hello Baby” aired its 2nd season in 2010 starring the band Shinee and the three-year-old Yoogeun. The band was to play dad to this lively toddler.

The Break-Up

  • The season ended in April followed by T-ara’s turn to play parents in the 3rd season.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • Shinee wrapped a gift for baby Yoogeun to open once he is 21. The reunion should ideally happen during his birthday, and he unwraps this present.
  • By this time, the Shinee members should be dads too. Clips of their interviews and lives as dads should follow. The proceeds of the reunion should go to either Yoogeun, if he still needs it, or to other kids like him who need support.

4. Supreme Team

The Past

  • This hiphop group was formed by Amoeba Culture in 2009 and disbanded in 2013. The members were Simon Dominic and E-Sens.
  • They were named the Best New Male Group during the Mnet Asian Music Award (MAMA) in 2009, Mnet 20’s Choice Awards (2010), and Golden Disk Awards (2010).

Here are 14 Japanese TV Series you shouldn't miss!

The Break-Up

  • E-Sens did not renew his contract with Amoeba Culture in 2011 because he wished to have a solo career.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • It would be nice for the fans of Supreme Team to see the two reunited in a tour around Korea, Japan and the US, joining street rapping battles.
  • In the process, perhaps the two rappers could once again produce an album, with the proceeds going to new artists struggling to make it into the business.

5. Kim Jong Kook and Yoon EunHye

The Past

  • The two were romantically linked in the variety show X-Man back in 2005.
  • The two actors insisted that they were not dating in real life, but several years after the “scandal” broke out, fans are still talking about their compatibility.

The Break-Up

  • Yoon EunHye was no longer part of the X-Man variety show after Episode 86. She was only on the show for about nine episodes.
  • Though their “love team” has been broken onscreen, fans continued to speculate on the relationship of the two actors because they looked good together.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • The fans would love to see these two together, ideally in a Yoon EunHye guesting during the Running Man.
  • It would be interesting to see Yoon EunHye play the villain, and Kim Jong Kook save his members from YEH. There should, of course, be a rekindling of sorts of their “romance” in the end.

6. 2PM

The Past

  • They were managed by JYP Entertainment. Their former members included Jay Park (who led the group), Junsu, Nichkhun, Wooyoung, Taecyon, Chansung and Junho.
  • They first started out as an eleven-member group named One Day, but split into two groups 2AM and 2PM.
  • While most Korean boybands go for the boy-next-door image, 2PM were tough, macho and almost beast-like.

The Break-Up

  • JayPark decided to leave the group in 2010 tohave a solo-career.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • 2PM fans would be turned off by sentimentality. A straight-up reunion with all the 2PM members, former and current, performing their best hits would be better.

7. H.o.t.

The Past

  • A five-member boy band which formed in 1996 under SM Entertainment. Their members were Moon Hee-joon, Jang Woo-hyuk, Tony An, Kangta and Lee Jae-won.
  • They were one of the most versatile boy bands in South Korea, with their music styles ranging from rap, pop, ballads, and even rock later on in their careers. They released five successful albums.

The Break-Up

  • The members’ contracts with SM Entertainment just ended in 2001, so the split was expected. However, the group never explained why they chose to go their separate ways despite their success.
  • Rumors of SM Entertainment’s financial troubles boiled but they were never verified.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • Fans need answers even after all these years. It would be great to have the members tell the public what really happened.
  • A roll of clips with their present-day lives now would also be great. To cap the reunion, a performance of their songs would be great too.

8. Master of Study

The Past

  • This Korean drama was based on a Japanese manga called Dragon Zakura. Sixteen episodes aired in 2010.
  • This is about a lawyer named Kang Suk-ho who sees his younger self in five delinquent students. He then decides to make it his personal goal to teach them so they could enter a good university.

The Break-Up

  • The story just ended after two months. South Koreans loved the show so much, though, that it scored solid rating the whole time it was airing.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • Fans would like to see more of this drama but perhaps a view of each of the students after 15 years.
  • There should probably a reunion at the start of this sequel, and a glimpse of each student’s life now that he or she is a grown-up.

9. X-Man

The Past

  • Quite a number of South Korean stars joined the cast of X-man, but fans would like to see Kang Ho Dong and Yoo Jae Suk the most.

The Break-Up

  • X-Man ended in 2007, after its 90th episode. The variety show ran for nearly four years.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • Kang Ho Dong and Yoo Jae Suk were pretty much in the background during the four-year-run of the show.
  • It would be nice to see them lead it for a change. It should be a documentary of the variety show’s success, perhaps with clips of the show’s most memorable moments during its run.

10. Non-Stop (Rainbow Romance)

The Past

  • The first season of this sitcom debuted on MBC in 2000. It ran for five more seasons and featured young SK idols.

The Break-Up

  • The sixth and last season went off-air in 2006.

Ideal Reunion Project

  • It would be nice to have a remake of the series, but with the characters leading adult lives.
