The Daily Movie Quote: Any Given Sunday

Any Given Sunday
Any Given Sunday

"On any given Sunday you're gonna win or you're gonna lose. The point is - can you win or lose like a man?" - Tony D'Amato, Any Given Sunday (1999)

Warner Brothers, Rated R, 150 minutes.

Directed By: Oliver Stone

Cast:

Al Pacino - Tony D'Amato

Cameron Diaz - Christina Pagniacci

Dennis Quaid - Jack 'Cap' Rooney

James Woods - Dr. Harvey Mandrake

Jamie Foxx - Willie Beaman

LL Cool J - Julian Washington

Matthew Modine - Dr. Ollie Powers

Jim Brown - Montezuma Monroe

Lawrence Taylor - Luther 'Shark' Lavay

Domestic Box Office Gross: $75,530,832

Synopsis: The life of a professional football team that resembles one in the NFL. An eclectic cast of characters that offer you an aging coach, a new female owner, a veteran quarterback and the rookie poised to replace him.

Fact: Dennis Quaid's house in the film is actually Miami Dolphins, Dan Marino's house.

Trivia: Much of the film is loosely based on the book "You're Okay, It's Just a Bruise: A Doctor's Sideline Secrets About Pro Football's Most Outrageous Team," by Rob Huizenga.

Movie Mistake: The Los Angeles game scoreboard shows 21-7 while the television broadcast displays 21- 14.

My Take: Any Given Sunday isn't my favorite sports film in the world and it's not even close to being Oliver Stone's best, but since the NFL season is in full effect I thought it was appropriate.
