The real Lochness Monster!

Rowdy Roddy Piper joins the other side at 61.

Professional wrestler and actor Rowdy Roddy Piper sadly died of cardiac arrest. He was known for acting like a nut job in the W. W. F. as one of Hulk Hogan's main enemies. Even though he was from Canada and his name was Rodreick George Toombs, he came to the ring in a kilt and to the sound of bag pipes. He was the Scottish Scourge, The Loch ness Monster and a thorn in the side of "good guys" like Superfly Jimmy Snuka, Hill Billy Jim, The Junk Yard Dog and others. Later, he left the B movies scene to be a good guy, when he mostly fought with those that were managed by Bobby The Brain Heenan.

He was brave to the point of insanity! He challenged the likes of Mr. T, Terry Hogan (aka Hulk Hoagan) , Andre The Giant, and whoever else he could anger.

On Friday, July 30th 2015, he tapped out and left the ring.

The best of his performances.

He has come here to chew bubble gum and...

The reason they called him Rowdy Roddy.

His career in a nutshell

  • In 1973 he entered the world of wrestling through the W.W.F. He was known as one of the most nortorious bad guys in wrestling. He squared off against the likes of Mr. T who joined the W.W.F. as Hulk Hogan's friend, and many others in The Hulksters circle. He insulted American's love for rock and roll and then, after leaving for a while, he came back as a fan favorite in pro wrestling.

In 1978 He starred in his first movie "The One and Only". He was in many B movies after that and appeared often on T.V. His biggest hit was the John Carpenter smash, "They Live". In 1988 aliens invaded the Earth and we had no idea. They were disguised like us until Roddy put on some special sunglasses and then, all you know what broke loose. He was a great choice for this role and delivered the one liners perfectly. Some of them were classics like " I have come to chew bubble gum, and kick ass. And I am all out of buggle gum". The gun toting, drifting construction worker stumbled on to something, and wasn't going to rest until everyone knew about it. The ending was awesome, and Roddy had his gem. Until then, he made his living acting in b movies like "Hell Comes to Frogtown" and other dumb Sci Fi flops. They Live is the one he will be remembered for.

He was not a professional actor and was of course chosen for Sci Fi roles because of his fame, size, and ability to fight. He also had some rage that he could summons for certain scenes. What I noticed is that he could be decent if he had a good supporting cast and a good director like he did in They Live. On the other hand, if he didn't have a good team, he could stink. His career was enjoyable though and he left us with many great memories.

He has starred in 8 movies that have not yet been released. You can check I.M.D.B. to get more info. about those.

This world will not be the same without Roddy!
