Aamir Khan is one of the most powerful and popular actors of Bollywood. He has made a name for himself as an Indian film actor, director and producer. He has acted in over 40 movies and has won several awards including the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India. He is known for his perfection that he is often referred to as Mr Perfectionist in the film industry. Aamir is involved with many humanitarian and political causes. He recently made his debut on TV with the talk show Satyamev Jayate that airs on various channels within Star Network along with Doordarshan's DD National. This show aims at bringing out social issues in front of public and urge them to take action. Aamir Khan is extremely choosy with movies. He is often referred to as ‘Tom Hanks of India' and the ‘Indian Sean Penn'. He is one of those actors who believe in acting one film at a time. He is also one actor who stays away from most award functions as he feels that Indian film awards lack credibility. He is also said to have declined the invitation to have a wax imitation of himself put on display at the Madame Tussauds in London as he believes in making his work speak for him.
Amir Khan was born on 14th March 1965 as Aamir Hussain Khan in a Muslim family in Mumbai to Tahir Hussain and Zeenat. He is the uncle of actor Imran Khan. Aamir Khan married his girlfriend Kiran Rao on 28th December 2005 after divorcing his wife of fifteen years (Reena Dutta) with whom he had two children - a son named Junaid and a daughter named Ira. Aamir and Kiran have a son whom they have named Azad Rao Khan. The son was born through a surrogate mother due to complications in Kiran’s pregnancy. He is also rumored to have fathered a son (Jaan Harry Hines) with his ex-girlfriend English writer Jessica Hines in 2003.
Aamir Khan started his career as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain's film Yaadon Ki Baaraat in the year 1973. He made adult acting debut in Ketan Mehta's Holi in the year 1984. This movie unfortunately was a flop. However, Aamir Khan found success as a lead actor in the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak which was a box office hit.Aamir Khan won the National Film Special Jury Award and Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance in the movie. After that he has given many highest grossing films in Bollywood. Rani Mukherjee has acted opposite Aamir Khan in 2 movies – Ghulam and Mangal Pandey: The Rising. Ghulam did moderately well at the box office and the pairing was liked by the viewers. In Mangal Pandey: The Rising Rani Mukerji played the role of Heera who has been sold into prostitution. This film was a below average movie in terms of earnings. Rani Mukherjee also made a guest appearance in the Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala starer Mann.
Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri Dixit and Aamir Khan was paired together in two films – Dil and Deewana Mujh sa Nahin. Deewana Mujh sa Nahin tells the story of a photographer who falls in love with a model. This film was a box office failure. Dil was a commercial success and Madhuri Dixit was awarded the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in the film.
Pooja Bhatt
Pooja Bhatt has acted opposite Aamir Khan in Dil hai ki manta nahin. This film was produced by Gulshan Kumar and directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Pooja Bhatt plays the role of the daughter of rich Mumbai shipping tycoon who falls in love with a newspaper reporter who hopes to revive his flagging career by doing an exclusive story on her. This movie was a success at the box office. Aamir Khan also made a guest appearance in the Deepak Tijori and Pooja Bhatt starer Pehla Nasha which was the uncredited remake of Brian De Palma's "Body Double".
Kajol Devgn
Aamir Khan and Kajol was paired together for the first time in the Yash Raj Films super hit movie Fanaa. This film was directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. Kajol plays the role of Zooni Ali Beg, who falls in love with an agent working for the terrorist group. Amir and Kajol acted together in another movie ‘Ishq’ which was a success at the box office too. However, Aamir was paired opposite Juhi and Kajol was paired opposite her husband Ajay Devgan in the film.
Urmila Matondkar
Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar was paired together in Ram Gopal Verma’s superhit film Rangeela. Urmila played the role of Mili Joshi who lands up with the heroines role opposite super star Raj Kamal (played by Jackie Shroff). Mili’s best friend Munna (played by Aamir Khan) falls in love with her but feels inferior because of her changed status.
Manisha Koirala
Manisha Koirala and Amir Khan has done two films together – Mann and Akele Hum Akele Tum. Mann was inspired by the Hollywood movies Love Affair and An Affair to Remember. This movie was a flop at the box office. Akele Hum Akele Tum was based on the Academy Award winning film Kramer vs. Kramer. Even this film did not fare well at the box office and was declared a flop.
Asin Thottumkal
Asin Thottumkal acted opposite Aamir Khan in the super hit Bollywood psychological thriller film Ghajini. Asin played the role of Kalpana who is the love interest of Businessman Sanjay Singhania played by Aamir Khan. This film was written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced by Tagore Madhu and Madhu Mantena. Ghajini was one of the highest grossing Bollywood films and a blockbuster worldwide.
Kareena Kapoor
Kareena Kapoor acted opposite Amir Khan is the Bollywood super hit film 3 Idiots. This film was based on Indian Author Chetan Bhagat’s Novel Five Point Someone – What not to do at IIT.
