Here Foreign Films are the films made in other languages in English. We all know that "foreign" is not absolute. To the rest of the world Hollywood is a foreign film industry and English films are foreign film.
Which are the "Best" Foreign Films?
Best foreign films are the films which are brilliantly made. In these films the actors has performed superbly. These great films are critically praised all over the world. Some of these are one of the all time greats in cinema making.
Among hundreds of very good foreign movies it was tough to find out the best. My list is not totally complete. There may be some more movies which are very good. You can inform me about these via comments.

A Separation is an Iranian film of 2011 by the talented movie maker Asghar Farhadi. This is the first Iranian film to win the Golden Bear.
The story revolves around an Iranian upper middle class married couples conflict about their daughter’s future. The mother wants to leave Iran for saving his daughter’s life from the dogmatic country and society of Iran but the father does not want leave because of his old Alzheimer patient father.
The story depicts a very human portrayal of the society of modern day Iran. The life in a country where is always an atmosphere of fear and suppression is depicted with all its reality. This film teaches us that basically human beings are same in every country. In 2012 this film received the Academy award for the best foreign film.
Spirited Away is an animated film from Japan of 2001. This animated film was directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The story is about a sullen girl of ten years age. During the time of changing home the family was trapped by a witch who transformed the parents into pigs. They all enter into an alternative magic reality. The girl tries to find the way of escaping from this magical world. It was the highest grossing film in Japan’s history in the box office. This film has gotten praises from the critics all over the world.
Waltz with Bashir
This is an Israeli film. The director of this film is Ari Folman. This is an animation film of 2008. The film is about the Israeli invasion in Lebanon in 1982. An Israeli soldier rediscovers the atrocities of massacre of Shabra and Shatila of the innocent Palestinian refugees. This is a very powerful film which strikes the audience. The film is also noted for the beauty of the animation used and the style.
Alphaville is a French science fiction film of 1965. The film is directed by Jean-Luc Godard. This is a black and white film set on a future city in another planet. The hero is trying to destroy Alpha 60, a sentinel computer which runs the city of Alphaville.
"The Host" - Poster
The Host is a monster horror film from South Korea. This 2006 film’s director is Bong Joon-ho.
Because of American militaries released chemical a strange amphibian has originated from the Han River. The monster attacks people at random. The protagonist fights with the monster to rescue his daughter.
The making of the film is superb. There is also some mild anti-US bias in it which gave it the censorship permission in the North Korea.

“Pather Panchali” or the “Song of the Little Road” is a beautiful Indian film by Satyajit Ray. The film is famous for its scenic beauty. The film is like a song. It depicts the childhood of the protagonist Apu. This is a coming of age film which shows the childhood’s end by harsh reality. This is one of the greatest films ever made. The talented Bengali director Ray has made this film mostly with ameture actors and inexperienced crew.
